Help! Kids seen Christmas eve box

I'm asking for some help on behalf of a friend. During a house move, her dd (8) followed her into a garage unknown to my friend and spotted the Christmas eve boxes. When she questioned them my friend panicked and brushed it off. But we cant think of how to explain this to her dd (8) so as to not spoil the magic of Christmas. (in their house the elves take the Christmas eve box before going back home to the North Pole). Any wonderful ideas on how to explain would be appreciated

The elves realised she was moving house and were worried they wouldn't be able to find her at Christmas. So they sent the Christmas box for her to take during the move. When she gets to the new house she needs to write her address out, put it in the box, and leave it out overnight. In the morning the box will be gone - elves will have picked it up again and will now know where to find her at Christmas.

Are Xmas eve boxes meant to be from Santa? I thought they were just a family gift thing!

Definitely wouldn't be keen on telling her the truth (she will only be 8 at Christmas, still very much believes. Small school and all kids in older years still very much believe. So would definitely be the only one to 'know'.
My friend just takes them in from storage on Christmas eve. Not quite sure how they get back to the 'North Pole' though after Christmas. That might be an idea 💡

I went to a very small, rural village school and still had it figured out by eight. Being at a small school doesn't mean that children have no critical thinking skills. At eight I definitely wouldn't be lying to the kid. Just don't mention it again and follow her lead if she asks. "Why was my Christmas Eve box here and not in fantasy land?". "I don't know my love, what do you think?".

SheWoreYellow · 25/09/2022 13:16

Yeah. I think she should get them out and leave them on the dining table and very openly say ‘yikes, still haven’t sent these back to Santa’, need to get them back to him next week.

You are over complicating things ... isn't it enough for Santa to bring gifts? Not many families do Christmas Eve boxes, they'll already be questioning why some kids get them, they are not stupid. Far better to minimise any magical gifts eg Santa to very modest, everything else from named family, saves kids questioning why Santa bought x for x but only y for y

An 18 month old came out with that?! Literally 18 months? That kid is a genius! Not being sarky, genuinely! I've worked with some bright toddlers who had great language skills but not at that level.

Well she will be 2 in February so I guess she’s 19 months now. And yes she was telling herself as she gets stressed at people dressed up, and yes that’s a direct quote.
She was the latest talker in our family but is making up for it now. I make early talkers with very good speech, but tbh it’s not made any difference in the long term- no geniuses!

"Each family help Santa out each year by storing their boxes through the year. The elves will come to collect it and take back to the North Pole at the beginning of December. Then they fill it and return it on Christmas eve."

Or similar.

Sleepwhatsthazzz · 25/09/2022 18:31

Thanks everyone, I have forwarded on the ideas. She should be able to find one that works. Thanks again

Santas moving warehouses and asked you to look after them……
The elves forgot to pick them up last year.
You brought some new identical ones for Santa as the old ones fell off the sleigh.
Or you don’t know how they ended up in the shed…
or they look like your boxes however your actually storing them for so and so.

saying that my son kept on finding my daughters Xmas presents one year and kept giving them to her. Luckily she wasn’t overly aware when I took them back. Or I say that it’s for their cousin and not them.

Notanotherwindow · 26/09/2022 19:37

Well the elves can't carry all those boxes! The parents keep them and the elves use their magic to fill them in Xmas eve. Obviously.

ChristmasCwtch · 26/09/2022 21:34

I fully buy into the elf and Santa coming on Christmas Eve.

But my DC know I make up the Christmas Eve box and that DH and I hide Easter eggs. We’ve forgotten to perpetuate the Easter Bunny whoops

I believe OP means the Christmas Eve boxes are theirs - belongs to the child who saw them.

I was trying to post this when I think my phone got hijacked by Father Christmas!

I was just offering an explanation to give the child, but I think its really sweet that you read my reply in that way and didn't try and break the news that elves don't really leave presents. You are very good at preserving the magic, thank you.

All the kids at school do not believe , just because they aren’t going round saying ‘I don’t believe in FC ‘ doesn’t mean they believe , by 7/8 most of them know .

Liorae · 27/09/2022 03:31

I don't think I have enough eyes to roll at this 🙄

youtwoandme · 11/10/2022 09:59

Oh come on OP. The elves can't fly away with millions of Xmas Eve boxes. Everyone knows they leave them behind and fill them on Xmas Eve Grin
