What do I get to go with posca pens?

I've bought my 10yo DD some posca pens for Christmas. She's very creative and has had much cheaper acrylic pens in the past but I hear the quality of posca is much better so hoping this will be a hit.

I'd like to make up a kind of hamper for her to go with it - things that she can do with them. But I'm not very creative so my inspiration isn't stretching much further than plain T-shirt's/bags and maybe a tea set or glasses. What else could I include? What are the best or you or your kids' favourite things to do or make with their posca pens?

Following as I’m in the same position.

Briandouglas · 24/09/2022 15:26

I’d include a good sketch book (thick enough so the pens don’t leak), some pencils (for sketching ideas) then rubber, sharpener etc. Maybe a nice bag/pencil case/tin to keep them in. I’d also get some black fineliners for outlining finished designs.

A pad of black paper, the colours look good on a dark background.

SILdidittoo · 24/09/2022 15:33

Plain white plimsolls, mini canvases, best place is Hobbycraft they sell loads of blank wooden things like money boxes, mini trays, initials etc

Crocky · 24/09/2022 15:36

A pencil case that she can decorate herself for the pens.

Eastisup · 24/09/2022 15:39

Permission to draw on the windows!
My daughter uses hers to decorate our windows at Christmas. Otherwise, they're great on chalkboard so maybe some mini blackboards?

properdoughnut · 24/09/2022 15:45

Please help me, what are these pens? I have seen people talk about them elsewhere and I don't get what they are? Paint in a pen? Are they like puffy paint? I have a teen in my life who loves art and crafts so might get her some but I have no idea what I'm looking at when I go into hobby craft!

lannistunut · 24/09/2022 16:03

Oh these look good!

GerundTheBehemoth · 24/09/2022 16:05

Some flat pebbles.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 24/09/2022 16:24

@properdoughnut, they are reallly good quality acrylic paint marker pens and can been used on multiple surfaces like paper, canvas, fabric, leather, stones, wood, glass, ceramic, metal etc. My DD has had some cheap acrylic pens off amazon and used them to death on drawing, stones, empty jars, herself(!) but they don't tend to last long. Posca are better, thicker, bolder and longer lasting (I hope!) They are expensive but half price in Hobbycraft at the moment and with the number of times I have to replace her cheaper ones I thought I may as well try out the top of the range ones!

Thank you for all these suggestions all.

No advice but thank you for the blast from the past @CoffeeChocolateWine I used to really fancy a tagger in my younger years and bought a posca to try and impress him 😁

CoffeeChocolateWine · 24/09/2022 16:28

@Eastisup, if I did this, how easily does it come off? I wouldn't mind in theory letting her draw on the back door windows if it can come off without too much bother!

Eastisup · 24/09/2022 16:33

@CoffeeChocolateWine it scrapes off very easily with a paint scraper when dry or you can just wash it off with water but it does make a big mess this way!

Eastisup · 24/09/2022 16:36

I used to work for Oddbins many moons ago and we used to use posca pens to do all the external advertising on boards and windows. Every four weeks! The area managers used to drive round the branches with their car boots full of pens to distribute! Must have cost them a fortune! Grin

properdoughnut · 24/09/2022 16:36

@CoffeeChocolateWine thank you!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/09/2022 17:36

I use Posca for various things but you can also use them as paint and dilute them for a watercolour effect - just make a pool of the paint by pressing down and holding, then use with brushes.

@Threadkillacilla um..what's a tagger?

Op hobbycraft has loads of stuff

Could also buy some baubles for her to decorate for Xmas and a mirror to decorate

Toomuchleopard · 24/09/2022 18:12

Posca pens are great and well worth the money. You can buy plain ceramics from craft shops like cups, egg cups, tiles etc and paint those then varnish them with clear varnish.
My son just customised all his Xbox controllers with them!
Theres loads of sellers on eBay where you get one free when you buy 4 or 5

bigbadbarry · 24/09/2022 18:15

I love my poscas and didn’t know they were for kids! I like to paint a load of thick good-quality acrylic paper with acrylic paint to make a nice non-absorbent surface then just sort of doodle with the poscas

Threadkillacilla · 24/09/2022 18:15

@GobbolinoTheWitchesCat a graffiti artist, the ones that just write one word or phrase. His tag was Seven, he's a plasterer now though not Banksy.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 24/09/2022 18:19

These ideas are brilliant, thanks so much! Love the idea of baubles, the black paper pad (she has lots of white paper art pads), blank pencil case and the big glass photo frame!

@Toomuchleopard, I wasn't aware you had to varnish afterwards so maybe I will put a bottle of that in too. Do you recommend any particular one?

@Threadkillacilla thanks, I thought that might be it!

Asda have got plain black Matt mugs which would be really effective. I’ve bought my dd a black pen pot - alternative to a pencil case . Loving the mirror or photo frame idea though - wouldn’t have thought of those!
