I’ll have a 2 month old at Christmas and I’d like to still get them a few gifts, what sort of presents did you get yours when they were this age for Christmas?

Would you like to do keep sake type things or more like toys? I’d probably steer clear of clothes as you’ll be inundated when your baby is born.

If you’ve not got one by 2 months then a baby gym is probably perfect. I have this one and would recommend:

Once your baby hits about four months, teething will start. So teething toys are good.

At around three months you’ll be looking at a bedtime routine and reading to them is a wonderful activity. If you go for something like the Julia Donaldson books (Stickman, the Snail and the Whale, Zog) then the stories are more interesting for you as an adult). Things like Dear Zoo are a nice length. Or the That’s Not My… is a great sensory experience once they are able to touch the pages (which is beneficial from quite a young age).

And then soon after that they’ll be an interest in moving around. So you could lean into that knowing you’ll need some toys for them.

So many weird typos and grammatical errors in that sorry!

Lifeispassingby · 24/09/2022 03:46

after Xmas you’ll have a long time until their first birthday so toy for up to 12 months old that you can keep until the age/stage they will need them x

7Worfs · 24/09/2022 04:32

I’ll have a 4mo old at Christmas and will just do a stocking, so far I have: a Peter Rabbit rattle from John Lewis, three books (That’s not my cow, Brown bear brown bear what do you see, Spot’s first Christmas). I’ll buy a keepsake Christmas bauble (something I started doing with DS1) - I usually go for Georg Jensen ones.
Can’t really think of much else for a baby, plus lots of toys and books already in the house.

coodawoodashooda · 24/09/2022 04:40

I had a 4 week old. Definitely toys for the coming year. If you can afford it of course. Other than that there's absolutely no pressure.

mam0918 · 24/09/2022 09:41

I also subscribe to the buy the toys they need for the upcoming year, I love to get loads at xmas and when you have 10 months between xmas and birthday theres plenty of stuff that will be needed.

My middle child was 2 months at xmas and he got a ball pit as the 'big' gift but also got loads of rattles, teethers, comfort blankets, soft toys and educational toys like counting kitty, vtech singing bear and my pal scout.

coodawoodashooda · 24/09/2022 09:55

Mulberry Bush is awesome

daisydalrymple · 24/09/2022 10:16

Toys my 3 loved in the first 18 months or so included hide and squeak eggs, stacking toys, like the wooden rings that stack on a wooden pole, shape sorter and wooden jigsaw type puzzles.

Danikm151 · 24/09/2022 10:18

A Christmas sack and stocking with their name on. That way you can use it every year and they will know it was from their first Christmas 🙂

Anywhereelse · 24/09/2022 10:26

Rainmaker toy

The small hardback books on a coil that attach to prams/car seat etc

I bought a box set of baby sensory balls which have different textured surfaces and colours which was popular when DS was about 6 months +

DS loved his Leapfrog Scout teddy which can be personalised

As a pp said a personalised Christmas stocking and sack

Stacking cups

Stacking rings - you can get colourful plastic or wooden ones

LittleLangdale · 24/09/2022 11:16

DS was 12 weeks his first Christmas and I think we got a play gym, shape sorter, stacking cups and one of those electronic bubble blowers. Stocking had his Christmas day outfit and some bath toys I think. I agree that with an October birthday you're best getting stuff for him to grow into over the year. Make sure he has a bit of a variety. I vividly remember having a young baby in lockdown with only a couple of toys. The second the shops opened I went on a toy shopping spree for my benefit rather than his!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 24/09/2022 11:28

We got dd Ewan the Dream Sheep and a personalised night light. From friends and family she got a toy box, tummy time mirror, Jellycat polar bear and the butterfly dreams mobile.

Ancfib · 24/09/2022 14:28

A couple of years ago my daughter was 2 months at Christmas!

I remember getting her a little soft toy that her sister got her, a book and a tummy time mirror! I got her other bits as well but if I'm honest a lot of it was stuff she needed.

Muslins, a hooded towel and teethers were good from family, as we needed them and they got her nice ones from John Lewis :)

Or get them some clothes and toys for 6 months onwards, as I agree with PP having an October baby means birthday and Christmas is crammed together. So it would be good to stock up on a few things in advance or at least ask family who want to buy something for the baby to do that :)

Maybe a nice ornament for the tree to remember their first Christmas?

Thank you so much! I’ve added these ideas to my spreadsheet😂

Lamaze captain calamari was hands down the number one toy for mine in their first months of life.

stridesy · 26/09/2022 18:24

Bath toys
stuff for feeding like plate spoons
books for buggy and to read

Yousee · 26/09/2022 18:36

My DS will be 4 months and so far he has:
Personalised stocking, tree bauble and wooden Christmas box
Lanka Kade animal figure
Grimm's rainbow rattle
Cloth book
Elf rag doll
Going to get some finger puppets too I think, and a Christmas board book for his Christmas box
I wouldn't buy for the year ahead as a 2 month old is too young to even enjoy scrunching up the wrapping paper and also too young to know the difference if you just buy and give them new bits as they grow (or as you see great seasonal bargains!). I see no point in stocking up at that age unless it was a great discount or you have loads of storage space.

lannistunut · 26/09/2022 18:39

I would buy one lovely wooden thing that you can treat as a heirloom and then just buy useful stuff they will need anyway and wrap it up.

Needmorelego · 26/09/2022 18:39

You have to get a My First Christmas onesie and matching hat. Plus a My First Christmas tree decoration.

That’s a good idea actually, I’ll most likely buy everything 2nd hand but it’ll be nice to spend a bit more money on something special

I will say my DD really like her Lamaze Tommy Tucker Turtle rattle that he got for his first xmas.

Titsflyingsouth · 26/09/2022 19:53

Hide and Squeak Eggs were very popular in our house.

Sophie the Giraffe

A walker - we had a wooden one but the plastic ones at nursery were just as good.

Stacking Ring Toy

Titsflyingsouth · 26/09/2022 19:54

@AnotherCF - we still have Captain Calimari and my son is 8! I can't bear to part with him...

dizzydizzydizzy · 26/09/2022 20:18

Money in the savings account to save for either university or first property, both of which are very difficult to afford now and will be much more out of reach in 18 years time, unless you plan.
