What foods would you bother with ?

I don't think I can be bothered with a full Xmas dinner, what would you eat ?

Nothing too faffy, yet a bit of luxury.

I might get myself a bottle of champagne, antipasti, olives , cold meats , cheeses and crackers.

I might do something like a roast dinner (just a chicken crown and cheat with ready done veg , gravy from a tub ...the day before and freeze some .

But Xmas day I think I will stay in pjs, and just pick , open champagne at lunch time and lay in front of the telly .

What treats could I get , I won't need much , so a few little extra extravagances just to last a few days . I don't want to waste anything.

I would order langoustines & scallops to collect in Christmas Eve. Cooked in butter (oh I miss real butter) and a squeeze of lemon and some sourdough bread to mop up the pan juices.

I would sit on the sofa in my pjs and eat an entire baked camembert with crusty bread. I'd watch films, maybe stretch myself to a jigsaw in the afternoon.

Open champagne at breakfast for a Bucks Fizz, have it with some pastries. For lunch have a treat that's easy to cook, fillet steak or Dover sole. Supper could be cheese & ham selection or smoked salmon sandwiches.
Planning is the key to a successful Christmas alone, so you can relax, swap meals around as the feeling takes you, as you've only got yourself to please.

Frozen croissants for breakfast/brunch? Easy to pop just one or two in the oven.

Teaandcrumpets95 · 20/09/2022 08:24

I'd get some tasty easy to grab bits from m & s , new fresh pjs for the day and line up my favourite films 🍿

I would cook a mini beef wellington for my lunch, followed by Xmas pudding and custard.

I would rather just pick all day than have something that required sitting down for, so I'd stock the fridge with cheeses, smoked salmon, pate's and lots of crusty bred. I might push to a soup incase it was very cold and I wanted to warm up.

I would sleep late (might be the 6m old baby that makes me say that first!), have cinnamon rolls of brunch, then nice cheese/ham/bread/crisps to pick at all day. And lots of chocolates! I don't drink but I might get some nice juice etc

This sounds wonderful!

For me, cooking (or plating up an antipasto board etc) on the day would be annoying, so my menu would take into consideration things I loved, but that could be prepared and just put in the oven to cook or re-heat or pre-plated up.

So breakfast, perhaps croissants already filled with ham and cheese and ready to go in the oven. Or normal cereal breakfast, considering what is to come!

Then lunch or dinner (agree with someone else who said make them inter-changeable as you may want the bigger meal at a different part of the day) small turkey crown roast, potatoes made and crisped the day before and just whacked in the oven to re-heat and get crispy. Gravy made the day before. If there was a packet or local gourmet beef Wellington or salmon en croute or fish pie or similar, i woild also consider that. Same principle - just put in the oven to heat, no work.

Or a pre-plated plate of my favourite pate’s and biscuits and grapes and other favourite antipasto picky bits.

Definitely a favourite soup in the freezer to reheat with crusty bread, and ditto bread for a toasted sandwich left overs!

I'd have an epic steak sandwich followed by cheese. Graze all day.

Queenfreak · 20/09/2022 13:34

I would still cook a roast, because its my favourite meal. I'd plan a walk somewhere local, a long hot bath with a new book and some posh smellies, have my roast, then sit in warm pjs reading, maybe a little crochet, and my body weight in cheese, crisps, nuts and cake (with single cream). In the evening I'd watch TV with wine and more cheese

Quitelikeacatslife · 20/09/2022 13:38

I'd probably cook a decent sized piece of beef so can get crusty bread and horseradish for Boxing Day, get posh ready made Yorkshire's and beef,
Yes to cheese platter, croissants nice fruit Salad
Little Xmas pud because I like it
Baileys posh chocs
Crisps and dips
Smoked salmon
Not all of these for one day !
