This year I really want to try using brown paper and using string or ribbons to make it nice. Maybe a festive thing on the front. Been on Pinterest and there's so many lovely things!

Wondered if people would like to share previous really nice but simple wrapping? 🎅

The stuff I used was awful. The tape didn't stick at all!

Prettypennies · 18/09/2022 16:17

Brown paper stamped with Christmas stamps looks lovely and ‘rustic’. Great activity with children too

bravotango · 18/09/2022 16:22

Yes I did this last year and will do again this year! I bought a roll of big sticky circles to use instead of normal tape and am never going back - game changer!

Prettypennies · 18/09/2022 16:41

Wouldn’t have thought about the sticky circles, great idea!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/09/2022 16:49

Its a lovely idea, you could use a different stamp design or colour for each person, so no tags needed .
I bought some red/white thin twine one year , colour of candycanes .
If you do the floding of the corners and employ a helpful person to hold the knot as you tie , you could get away without tape altogether ?

DreamloverTealover · 18/09/2022 21:26

Ooh what are the sticky circles?

@70isaLimitNotaTarget i think my husband would love that challenge! 😄 He is so much better at wrapping than I am.

Not sure how to share a link as using the Amazon app - but these are sticky circles! Amazing for one handed sticking

Does anyone have any photos of examples of what they've done in the past?

Whilst this sounds a great idea DH reacted as if cricket had been banned.

DreamloverTealover · 19/09/2022 09:15

Oh how come @GettingStuffed

He likes all the bright colours and is probably autistic hence the adoration of cricket

I did this a couple of years ago. Large roll of wall paper lining and glue gun helped! Pinterest has loads of ideas

If you can avoid glitter, foil and sticky tape so the paper can be recycled, you don't have to resort to dull rustic brown paper.

I love retro / vintage printed paper, but have lots of Christmas fabric so may switch to drawstring gift bags this year.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 04/10/2022 08:06

Those of you that use brown paper - is it parcel paper or Kraft paper and is that the same thing? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I get mine from hobby craft, it's just brown parcel paper. But pretty much the same thing.

eish · 08/10/2022 07:46

@GettingStuffed how about using fabric, reusable wrapping paper? Eco friendly and lovely and bright!

Sonyo · 08/10/2022 10:05

I use fabric. This year I'm getting some play silks for the DC, so the wrapping is also a gift. Plenty of recyclable wrapping paper online with beautiful patterns, so don't need to stick to a plain brown. My nana used to wrap all gifts in newspaper!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 08/10/2022 11:26

I used brown paper and the brown paper tape - otherwise you have to pull regular sellotape off before you recycle/add it to the kindling basket for the fire. I did try the stamps but I'm not artistic enough. I used the ribbon which my flower subscription comes with - 12 months of flowers was almost enough for all the presents under the tree and brightened up the brown parcels

Trumpton · 08/10/2022 11:41

Here are some from last year.

Brown paper, with brown paper tape, wrapped with a colourful ribbon and then I use my cricut to cut out the recipients name and just stick that on. If you don’t have your own cricut, you can buy name stickers from Etsy for usually around £1 each

Big up your nana! I used my mum’s old Financial Times’ with gold ribbons, I think it looks really cool

bravotango · 08/10/2022 21:14

Sostrene Green have Christmas stamps in at the moment, might be nice for decorating brown paper packages tied up with string!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 11/10/2022 07:43

@sonyo - my DH moans about all the wasted paper, I'll be saving his newspapers to wrap his presents this year! I'll reuse the ribbon i used on his brown paper wrapped presents this year!

@trumpton lovely. I particularly like the folded wrap on the presents on the left. Do you have a link to a site that shows you how to do them please?

newmumtotwo24 · 12/10/2022 12:05

It's not overly fancy but last year I cut up the fronts of my Christmas cards where there were pictures/snowflakes/cute quotes/whatever and this year I'm sticking them on my presents to jazz up the brown paper. Doesn't look Pinterest worthy but is nice and quick and easy. Then I write straight on them who they are for with a silver pen.
