Bit of a science/ ICT geek. Has his birthday in December too. Into reading, especially non-fiction. Not really into clothes but keen on personal hygiene. On the spectrum as well.

Do any of you marvellous people have ideas?

Thanks

Mine has asked for a solar charger, he was inspired by the ones we saw when camping. He has suggested it will also come in handy to help save electricity by charging all our gadgets!

He also wants (fiction) books about WW2

I'm considering a Raspberry Pi kit for Xmas, one you can build into a retro gaming console - Pac man and space invaders type thing.

Popcorn making machine from Argos.

Oh I'm also considering an LED desk lamp - one that is adjustable, with dimmer and 'temperature' settings, they usually have a handy is charging socket too.

Rope lights are also popular with that age - we already have some.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas here. @Saisong How long do kids use the Raspberry Pi for?

The raspberry Pi is ageless if you are a geek, it can be built into so many things - it is essentially a small simple microprocessor, so people use it to run home security systems, robots, games systems etc. It does need some knowledge of programming - though it can be good if they are motivated to learn programming languages themselves. For kids it is best aquired as part of a kit to build an actual something. There are lots of online resources.

Just remembered something else you might like that we gave DS last Xmas. We got him a small sized 'Stanley' toolbox, then all family who asked for ideas were told to get him Stanley tools (small sized so as to fit). He ended up with a dinky level, a tape measure, small socket set, multi head screwdriver, pliers etc.
You can buy a lot of this type of stuff in the pound shop places, but we went with a brand so hopefully it will last him a lifetime and it send a bit more special as seperate gifts.

He uses it a lot for tinkering with his rcs and bike.

My son loves the qi fact books and there is a new one coming out, may he like that? Http:://www.faber.co.uk/product/9780571373307-222-qi-answers-to-your-quite-ingenious-questions/

Also have a 'geeky' 12yr old.
We're buying him components for him to build his own pc!
He literally has everything else (consoles/tv/phone/smart speaker etc) so figured rather than a laptop, this is something he can build on and upgrade over the next few years.
