Novelty tree decorations

I had to leave mine behind a few years ago after escaping DV; it’s taken me a while to get back on my feet financially but I finally have and I really want to buy some new ones.

So far I’ve looked at

  • Paperchase
  • M&S
  • John Lewis
  • Typo

My teens have asked for Kawaii tree decs for their small bedroom tree too.

I’m bored of looking at the round, plain baubles I picked up from B&M the year I left. They’re also mildly triggering.

Do you have any garden centres local that have the big Christmas department? A lot of my favourite decorations have been collected from garden centres over the years, they seem to stock styles that I never see anywhere else.

HardLanding · 15/09/2022 23:20

Possibly, we’ve just relocated (again, but under much better circumstances - I’m starting my first PG job!) and are fairly rural now, haven’t had much time to explore as moving during the school holidays is both a blessing and a curse.

Wouldn't even have occurred to me look for a garden centre as I spent 4 years in a City, so thank you!

Etsy is good for tree decorations on almost any theme.

I’ve picked up a few favourites at flying tiger over the years, as well as a couple in supermarkets (Asda and Tesco). B&M and Home Bargains also generally have a few novelty ones so I just pick up a decoration when I see one. We also have quite a few from the stores mentioned, but it really depends what they have in store year to year. We slowly swapped out some plain baubles for each new novelty decoration that we found.

It makes me so happy to hear someone coming out of the other side of an awful situation - i hope that you all have a lovely time building your magical tree together ❤️

TkMaxx online right now is excellent.

NatWestPigFamily · 16/09/2022 06:08

Not on the high street sell decorations that can be personalised. Maybe get one with the year on so you can remember your fresh start.

This.
I might make some for this year and then buy more in the sales after Christmas.

There's a lovely company called Sass & Belle that do really cute decorations.

Marshmallow12345 · 16/09/2022 06:32

Etsy is good, but even better last year we got a set of crackers that had build/sew-your-own Christmas decorations in, we had loads of fun and they'll make us smile when they come out every year. Some sort of kit to make them could be fun to do together and a nice memory?

Needmorelego · 16/09/2022 06:32

Flying Tiger usually have good ones.

Anthropologie
Sass & Belle
Liberty

SweetPeaPods · 16/09/2022 07:13

The range if there is one near you?
Supermarkets and garden centres are both good shouts.
John Lewis?

PurplePeach62 · 16/09/2022 07:23

I second TK Maxx - I've had some lovely ones over the years, often with a vintage look.
Also try charity shops, you can often find weird and wonderful gems there.
Happy hunting 🤶🏻

Quitelikeacatslife · 16/09/2022 07:26

Sass and belle And Paper chase are fantastic for kitch and fun decorations.
B&m or the range are great for lights and basics . I'd get rid of your old ones and get some you love , even if it's just a few and build it up over the years in your lovely new future

The Range
Wilko

There's a nice online shop Christmasdecorations.co.uk that does nice glass and cute ones. I want this hermit crab bauble.

For Kawaii decs for the teens, you could buy a cheap box of mixed colour baubles and a black acrylic paint pen and let them draw cute faces on them.

Or maybe buy a 6 pack of the squishmallow squishville minis and sew a loop of ribbon to the top to hang them to the tree.

noscoobydoodle · 16/09/2022 10:57

I have some personalised wooden decs from crafty giraffe- currently BOGOF. I'm ordering some more for this year- puffer fish, meercat and personalised Xmas jumpers.

HardLanding · 18/09/2022 09:53

Brilliant suggestions, thank you! This dropped off my I’m On list and I’ve only just found it, still can’t get used to the new layout.

Teens are very arty (and bloody good at it too), so that’s a great idea, they’ll love it.

We had quite a big Flying Tiger near us in the last area, will check the website to see if there’s one near us now. A friend told me yesterday that they do online orders now?! I haven’t dared to look as it could be quite dangerous!

Tk max and Homebase have the BEST Xmas decces ever. Last year I got a glass Santa dressed as a pirate , riding two sea turtles 😂. I've got lots of animals in fancy dress, 70s stole robots etc from them too.

Needmorelego · 18/09/2022 10:09

@HardLanding ooh Flying Tiger online now...hand me my debit card 😂
I saw this one on the Paperchase website.....

The range have there Christmas decorations out now and they have loads of individual ones. I collect gisela Graham decorations that I get on ebay and garden centres. Another online shop to try is liberty they normally have loads of individual baubles. You can also try charity shops.

Windy1234 · 18/09/2022 13:41

Another vote for the range! Beautiful and affordable x
