Thinking of buying for grandparents but thinking they may prefer a dressing gown

Would they be able to get one on /off over their head? Or are there zipped ones? My teens have them but pull over ones..

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/09/2022 22:18

I think it depends on how agile they are. They (the oodies) are quite heavy and have to be pulled over your head and body, I'd imagine some older or infirm people might find this a struggle and would prefer a dressing gown.

FuzzyAndBlue · 10/09/2022 22:20

Lands End do great Sherpa lined dressing gowns

SNWannabe · 10/09/2022 22:27

Definitely not an older person gift.

InFiveMins · 10/09/2022 22:29

No. Definitely not an oodie for an old person. Stick to a nice dressing gown.

Dressing gown. X

Stompythedinosaur · 11/09/2022 02:19

Unless they'd expressed a wish for one, I wouldn't. I think they'd be awkward and might not be appreciated as they aren't marketed to that age group.

hattie43 · 11/09/2022 07:28

I've bought Oodies for my parents , 76 and 78 and they love them , see them as huge fun . I should add both have full mobility so no problem getting them on and off .
If they had rickety shoulders they wouldn't be great and I'd go down the zipped robe option .

Malleus123 · 11/09/2022 08:17

I would say dressing gown. Oodies quite heavy and could be awkward for an older person to get on and off

Bestcatmum · 11/09/2022 08:18

I'm in my 60s and wear the. All the time. My mother wears them and she's in her 80s. Depends on the person.

hewouldwouldnthe · 11/09/2022 10:26

If they are short and not very mobile I'd say no, as they are heavy and may be a trip hazard on stairs

GettingStuffed · 14/09/2022 06:38

It really depends on how mobile they are. I'd buy one for my dad, 78 , as he's tall and mobile

nachoavocado · 14/09/2022 06:42

As PP have said depends on the person.

I was going to get one for the older person in my life but have also gone for a dressing gown now as otherwise its more hassle when they want to cook etc.

MinervaTerrathorn · 14/09/2022 06:46

Depends on the person and age. DS's grandparents (my parents) in their early 60s- yes, my grandmothers in their mid/late 80s -no.

MinervaTerrathorn · 14/09/2022 06:47

Grandparent could mean 40s (or younger) to 100+!

ohmyohmy123 · 15/09/2022 11:34

I got my Nan a similar thing but zip up so it can be worn as a dressing down. My mum is in her 60's and wouldn't get an oodie on and off without distress haha
