I'm aiming to get my DC (DD6 and DS4), as much as possible, second hand gifts this year. Adults will be more challenging! I've made a start as it will require looking out for things online as they come up and scouring charity shops. Anyone else thinking similar? What have you found/are you looking for?

Definitely second hand for the kids. Mine are adult now, but will tell you all sorts of stories from their childhood carboot adventures.

Car boot sales - good shout!!

I have brought a lot of my DD Xmas presents 2nd hand, she will be 10m so won't care. Best bargain is her main present which is a wooden trolley walker I got free on Facebook!

Nice one!! Facebook free local sites are great aren't they. Last year I got my DD a set of Shimmer and Shine dolls from one, and I give away a lot of stuff on them too.

@Devo1818 try the website Bricklink for second-hand Lego.

Good tip - thank you!!

My children buy us small presents and I have suggested they buy me something secondhand in the last couple of years. Books, CDs, family games and jigsaws all work as good presents for me. They are easy to find in charity shops and DCs' money goes a lot further.

We've had some great deals from charity shops, eBay, car boot sales, etc over the years. One that stands out to me was a huge box of 80s action figures & accessories for DD when she was about 4. The guy we bought them off was really pleased that they were going to be played with and not "collected". Another great bargain was DS's starter train track. Big box with a couple of engines that we could then build onto for the next few years or so. That one came from just down the road. DD's first swing was from Freecycle and was given away again on Freecycle once she outgrew it. I've also found some hard-to-find bits in charity shops, like a brand new Disney Store wig a few years ago, it was sold out on the website and DD already had the outfit so she was made up. We've had some nice big toys from car boots. Olio can be good too, not just for food, I often see toys and household goods locally.
