I thought that an advent calendar would be a way of gradually building up to Christmas for my MiL who has fairly advanced dementia. I thought about degustabox but I think there's stuff that she wouldn't like in it. Does anyone have any ideas for biscuits or posh (ish) chocolate?

Have a look at Biscuiteers, they do lovely biscuits.

I got Dh a jam advent calendar last year. It was Bonne Maman calendar. He liked it very much

Biscuiteers were a nightmare last year, just didn't deliver a load of orders. I was scrambling to replace one of their non deliveries a few days before Christmas, still bitter.

Could you get one of those beautiful traditional paper windows ones? They tend to have lovely Victorian scenes on them. Or maybe a quilted pocket one and put in a green and blacks mini each day? You could make your own of buy one like this: www.vertbaudet.co.uk/advent-calendar-ho-ho-ho-multi.htm?ProductId=705011662&FiltreCouleur=6321

I think the more traditional the more likely it is to spark something.

I'd just get a very traditional and beautiful paper one.

There were some last year with a small decoration behind each door.

Being honest, though, I would check out what sort of choc or treat she likes and is familiar with and get that as it is more likely to be enjoyable for her.

Paper ones won't work as she's got very poor control of her hands , I was also trying to get her used to the present aspect so that Christmas day is less stressful for her. We also have a 5 year old so a quiet Christmas is not on the cards

There are tea or jam ones that sound nice

Or a Hotel Chocolat one ? Various different sizes .

xyzzyx · 09/09/2022 18:07

Tea or coffee ones are always good...
one year I made my own for my kids put silly little trinkets and their fav treats in their numbered pouches (haribo, kinder, gingerbread men, iced gems, etc)

In the past I've got my mum the lakrids liquorice calendar and the bonne mamman
She loved it so I'll get it again this year

Hosum · 17/09/2022 15:34

Fortnums do a beautiful tiny gramophone one with carols/read music on little records.

Hosum · 17/09/2022 15:34

Traditional music even not read

No idea what it is like, but I saw an M&S biscuit one advertised today, although I can't find it on their site

Another Bonne Maman fan. I've had them the past couple of years and they're great.

KangarooKenny · 17/09/2022 15:42

I loved the Ferrero Rocher one last year.

Festivalpartygirl · 17/09/2022 15:57
