I know Christmas is a way off yet, but I like many others will be struggling with the cost of living, so I want to be prepared as possible in the next few months.
It is just me and my 10-year-old at home, we usually spend Christmas with either my parents when they visit or my younger brother and his partner. This year my parents can't visit, and my younger brother and his partner are working so we will be on our own for the first time. I don't drive and I have a disability so looking for ideas on things we can do together at home, as my brother will be taking DS out for a few activities with friends. I've got the usual ideas like Christmas movies and hot chocolate and baking, but I am hoping for some more ideas preferably cheap or free. Also, any traditions people have? We don't really have any apart from new pjs on Christmas eve. I want to make this year really special as it's been a weird couple of years.

As much as DS loves Christmas, he likes to remind me Santa isn't real, so maybe I need to look at more grown-up activities, but I have no idea where to start.

Some of our favourites are:

Making and decorating a gingerbread house.
Making Christmas cards.
Board games night.
Indoor snowball fight (we have a load of white pompoms, but could use screwed up paper).
Mario kart night.
Decorating turns in to lots of activities - so the annual one is decorating the tree, but we have also got together to decorate the bathroom, or to make a lego christmassy village scene or to decorate the pet's cages.

Do a ‘Christmas light safari’ either on foot or by car around a local town. We do it in the car, with the dc in their pyjamas with blankets, popcorn and Christmas music playing!
Church services are free. Your 10 year old might be too old for the nativity service but it could be quite nostalgic! Lots of churches do a ‘carols by candlelight’ service.

Film evenings with hot chocolate. You can do a hot chocolate station with cream, marshmallows and sprinkles. Maybe different flavour hot chocolates to try.

Festive Lego builds. Lego advent calendars are pretty good value (particularly the Lego City one). Or if DS has a good amount of bricks you might find something Christmas themed to build using free downloadable set instructions on the Lego site. You can search under keywords and get the instructions for any set.

Not sure how your disability effects your mobility but a trip around a local park/woodland collecting pine cones/holly/greenery to make a table centrepiece.

Jigsaw puzzles.

Tour of the local house light displays in the evenings.

Our local library does special events for kids that are free. Might be worth keeping an eye on their Facebook pages for updates.
