Haven't got a clue what I'm buying anyone. It's September.

Why are you here....on a Christmas board...looking at Christmas threads?

whimsicalwillow · 09/09/2022 13:26

My dad and stepmum in their 90's can really buy anything they need. They both love eating out at a Michelin star restaurant so we give them a joint present of a voucher there. Maybe a nice bottle of wine and chocolates so they have something to open.

On the bird feeder topic, I got my dad a nesting /feeder from here. He was very pleased. Will keep hunting for this year’s ideas now!

Also got both sets of parents that last year- was a massive hit!

Oh God, I need this, my parents are impossible.

Have so far bought them nice fancy chocolates each.

Pre-ordered the Charlie's Good Tonight book about the Rolling Stones - currently half price on pre-order if anyone else's dad is an aging rocker.

Would LOVE to get either or both of them the DVD of the Hugh Laurie adaptation of Agatha Christie's Why Didn't They Ask Evans? I would have thought the DVD would be perfect for the Xmas pressie market!

I think a bird box with a camera could be a hit with my parents. They are keen gardeners and nature lovers.

Dna ancestry sounds interesting too.

We've agreed not to buy any presents for each other which is fine.

My partners dad got one a few years ago for Xmas and he really enjoys it, so does his mum. They brought one for him off the RSPB website as they figured that should be a good one

I want to buy them a digital photo frame that I can upload photos to. Someone on here recommended one a while ago but I can't for the life of me remember the brand.

WaveyHair · 09/09/2022 18:10

I have bought joint National Trust membership in the past.

Devo1818 · 09/09/2022 18:39

Digital photo frame - that's a good shout.

I commented earlier re things I've gifted in the past. Since then been thinking about what I might give my DM (apart from the annual mag subscription)

More than anything, she enjoys spending time with us (we live a long way apart). I am
thinking of making her some vouchers, to be honest for things we might do anyway eg afternoon tea; visit to xx garden centre including lunch and buying a plant; dinner at xx pub; trip to the seaside including fish n chips etc
I'd make the vouchers so that we can include things for which you can't buy vouchers, or non committal so no money lost if you don't make it/ businesses sadly go bust.

She is in her 80s but DH and I (60s) would enjoy that sort of thing too, adapted to our tastes eg cocktails/gin tasting; restaurant vouchers etc

Startuplife · 18/09/2022 23:02

Does anyone know of anything similar to Rick Stein where you can order a voucher for?
My parents would love that but I’m not sure what their plans will be in the days after Christmas so wouldn’t want to order one for them and then it’s an inconvenience.

This year I have my dad who's impossible to buy for, doesn't drink, has diabetes and is not strapped for cash and my MiL who has dementia (if she's still here). Possibly a heated throw for MiL. No idea for Dad, last year I gave him a pebble picture from Etsy
