Considering going out with my son on Christmas Day for lunch . He has autism so likely won’t eat much . Wondering how much people spend going out and if they have found it value for money

I am the manager! (Not the owner…)

Christmas dinner is all preordered by the customer and mainly prepped the day before. Chefs get in at 11, as do I. Two sittings for dinner, 12 and 3. The team are literally in 12-5.
Head Chef and I finish up, clean up, cash up, lock up, home by 6 latest.

I’m begging people not to avoid Christmas Day because you feel sorry for the staff. The industry is on its knees. Christmas Day is a key date for us, please come and enjoy it!

I'm glad you've got it down to such a fine art.🙂 I guess how busy Christmas Eve is a factor deciding whether you can prep early. And how you choose to cook the roasts.

Unfortunately it's not the case for many! My DH (also manager) usually has to choose whether to be with us for Christmas morning and leave after breakfast or go in early, miss the morning with us all and be home for a late Christmas Dinner.

I know that many places have chosen not to open this year because it's a big deal to be able to give staff Christmas off, and helps no end with recruitment which is tricky at best at the moment. His premises closing over Christmas is one of the reasons my DH now works where he does.

My DS has autism and I've not taken him out on Christmas day for dinner because everywhere is very busy and very noisy.
Cheapest place near us is Toby carvery at around £50 per head.

I work every other Christmas and in 2019 we had our Christmas day on Christmas eve due to work. We went to Toby carvery for our Christmas Dinner at around 6pm on Christmas eve and it was really quiet and the meal was only £15 per head for pretty much the same food as you get on Christmas day. So if you're not fixed on having Christmas Dinner on Christmas day, go Christmas eve evening when everyone else is at home.
