I'm looking for some really nice cosmetics for my sister for Christmas, hand cream, body lotion etc etc

She doesn't use products tested on animals and as I tend not to use many cosmetics and I am limited in what I do use due to allergies I am a bit bewildered as to which brands are okay and which aren't. At one point the body shop was a fair bet but not any more apparently.

Does any one use any animal testing free cosmetics that they like that they can recommend

I go with the leaping bunny logo. It can be a bit of a minefield but if you see that logo it's a good start. I like Liz Earle and Molton Brown

Chantecaille has nice stuff. Penhaligons do hand creams. Both are very expensive though.

I think The Body Shop is cruelty free now. They used to be owned by a company that tested on animals but they're not anymore.

The body shop is mostly vegan as is lush. Also Tropic stuff is nice too. I like face theory as well. I only buy vegan cosmetics!

The best place to look is a website called Cruelty Free Kitty. It’s always kept up to date and lists all cruelty free brands, budget and luxury

Hourglass is cruelty free and donates a percentage of profits to an animal welfare foundation. It's quite ££ but one of the Ambient Lighting powders or a lipstick makes a really lovely indulgent present.

I meant to say that Chantecaille donates some of their money to animal charities/wildlife foundations. That's why they're my favourite luxury brand.

Don't forget that just because a product is vegan doesn't mean it's not cruelty free. Vegan means it doesn't contain animal products but doesn't mean that it hasn't been tested on animals

These would be my first choice

Thank you everyone, theres some great ideas here and I am having a lovely time looking through all the options. Because I am so restricted in what I can use myself its nice to shop vicariously for someone else!

Also check they don't sell in China where testing is compulsary .

I only buy cruelty free beauty make up products. Things to look out for - do they sell in China (mandatory animal testing). More important to some, is the parent company cruelty free.

A poster above mentioned Cruelty Free Kitty to check a brand. I agree, they are an excellent point of reference.

I would personally like Charlotte Tilbury or Aēsop, Fenty plus Estelle & Thild - a Swedish brand.

Good luck
