Home made hamper ideas for gifts

Planning ahead and looking to create something lovely for family members by making food/nice things to go in hampers. I don’t have a lot of money but I do have time and ability to learn!
so… I was thinking I could make some jams when the fruit comes down in price (fingers crossed) in sept, and maybe some biscuits, crackers, chutney. I was thinking maybe to get some small cloths and try out some embroidery for initials on each one. Any other ideas of what I could make to go inside?
thanks all

I used to eat Branston Pickle by the spoonful when I was in my 20s!

Well yes, of course if you knew your recipient would enjoy it whatever age it's fine. There just seems to be a MN belief that anyone who makes hampers takes leave of their senses when they decide that's the gift they are going to give.

I think hampers and home made goods are an age thing too. If you gave me homemade things now I'd be delighted (middle age mum) and very flattered that you had given your time to do it for me. However, if you gave it to my 23 year old self I'd be like WWTF am I supposed to do with this chutney? Where are my vouchers?

One year I did my middle ds (mid 20s) a nandos type hamper. There was hot sauces, a rub, their marinade, peri peri nuts and chilli stuffed olives. He was totally chuffed!

Chilli sauce or sweet chilli sauce is always popular when I make it for family

agree with the gin - I also do rhubarb gin (which is lush so I keep loads lol)

my sister in law makes chocolate florentines every year and everyone loves them and looks forward to receiving them

also gingerbread men

How about a beauty one? One of my Christmas magazines last year had suggestions about making up bath salts in cute jars with scoops

It's all well and hood wanting to do food but honestly, this very rarely works out at a cheaper option. To make it edible, you need good quality ingredients. Proper butter and sugar for fudge, proper butter for biscuits, sugar isn't cheap and I don't quite know why fruit would be cheaper in September?

If I was in your shoes I would do just 1-3 items. Home made Fudge, line and fill biscuits ( could personalise them and they look WOW with practice) and maybe a peppermint vodka or chocolate liqueur. You could always add a few home made paper origami tree decorations? With the line and fill biscuits you could produce some thing really special but the process is crazy simple, it's all about the practicing and presenting them.

That's actually brilliant and my teenager and her friends would love it. I might start picking up cheap tortures from b and m!

I make chocolate mint vodka most years. It's better made with Fry's peppermint cream bars (Poundland) than after eights but it's still really good. Just blitz chocolate and vodka together, return to bottles and keep in a warm place

Go blackberry picking and make blackberry and apple jelly. Blackberries are free and sometimes you find a wild.apple tree as well.
