Not quite Robert Sabuda but lovely.

I have a 5 year old and an 8 year old girl and a 2 year old boy to buy for for both myself and my mum who I shop for too. All have birthdays before Christmas too so want a mix of fun and sensible.
My own kids are 20 and 16 so I’m out of the way of what little ones like! For one of the gifts I was going to buy the two girls the next version of an oodie - called oversize fleece poncho (sorry can’t link). Does that sound like a good idea, if you have similar age girls? Thank you.

IsabelaYourBoyfriendsHere · 06/08/2022 22:56

@nicky2512 I bought myself an oversized poncho blanket recently and ever since I tried it on my 5 year old DD has been begging me for one of her own! I think it would make a great present. 🙂

TheGriffle · 06/08/2022 23:09

@nicky2512 I have 5 and 9 year old girls and got them both the next version of the Oodies last year for Christmas, they both liked them at the time but to be honest they haven’t worn them much. Other ideas could be barbies, squishmallow type toys or craft stuff for the girls, playdoh set for the 2 year old boy?

nicky2512 · 06/08/2022 23:43

Thank you @IsabelaYourBoyfriendsHere and @TheGriffle
i hadn’t thought of squish mallows. They look great. Just what my own dd would have liked. Will maybe go for one of those and an oodie each and then the rest in cash or clothes.
play doh is a good call for the wee one. Thanks again.

recklessgran · 07/08/2022 01:06

I've also had a dispatch e-mail late this evening from Boots for the brilliant No7 gift set posted by @EverydayIsPJday yesterday.

Someaddedsugar · 07/08/2022 06:39

Bob and Blossom have some lovely clothes in their sale - mainly age t-shirts but a few bits like nail varnish for little ones and balloons.

Ironess · 07/08/2022 07:34

Has anyone seen any of the oodie tshirt dupes?? My 10 dd would love one but the £45+ price tag is rather off putting!
I seem to remember there were oodie alternatives on the thread last year.
Thanks!

Haven't seen the T shirt style but Dunelm did a good range last year

Tigger83 · 07/08/2022 07:48

I collected the boots offer from store yesterday. It's a great gift!

EverydayIsPJday · 07/08/2022 08:25

Still no dispatch notification from boots for me 🤦 I am not feeling that hopeful now! Hopefully I am wrong but I've definitely lost alot of faith in them of late. My local boots store is closing too so I think future purchases will become quite limited. Such a shame with baby #3 due in a few weeks!

Isonthecase · 07/08/2022 09:00

@nicky2512 not sure on the girls but I think a 2 year old boy a pretty safe bet is Duplo, a squishaboo or squishmallow, or something like kinetic sand. There's lots on offer at the moment in supermarkets and garden centres do I'd probably just keep an eye out when out shopping anyway.

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 07/08/2022 09:02

I know this thread is usually for gift ideas but some really great bargains for embroidered tablecloths and napkins on the site below. They have a couple of pvc designs too. I'm kicking myself as I spent most of Feb searching for embroidered napkins after falling in love with a sold out set on Fortnums webpage. I ended up buying some but not quite perfect.

I was wondering if anyone had spotted and magformers/Magna tiles offers? They are so expensive!

I have come across these unbranded
Magnetic Tiles on Amazon, £35 for a 100pc set seems like a really good price, but is there a huge difference between the big brands vs the cheaper ones?

Thanks for your help!

nicky2512 · 07/08/2022 10:37

Thank you *@Isonthecase I had forgotten about kinetic sand. I loved that when my ds was small!

Can anyone recommend some earbuds in the under £50 category, decent quality? TIA

Check out the Anker ones. They are often around the £25-£30 range, ans the sound is good

StompyRompy · 07/08/2022 11:30

Morning! Has anyone seen any deals on ice cream machines lately? I am hoping for around the £30-£40 mark. Saw one on Lakeland but a bit on the fence about it.

Also, does Lego ever go on sale? Thinking of it for an adult birthday at the end of the month - so it's very expensive 😳

Isonthecase · 07/08/2022 11:32

@MistyQuigley your biggest issue is likely to be that they're not necessarily compatible with the main brands. I'd suggest second hand would be a better bet.

Smyths had some sets with reductions about a week ago when I was in there- there were certainly advanced ones included but not sure about adult ones

My youngest dd is 10, she loves her squishmallows, especially the big one which she uses as a pillow on the sofa! We bought hers last year in aldi for £12.99 in a special buy but she got another with birthday money in the entertainer for around £24. She also adores her fake oodie (primark one!) And her other favourite things right now are jewellery making (bought a load of beads off shein and a lunch bag to store them in!), fuse beads from amazon (a cheaper version of hama beads but better as sorted by colour!) and Crystal's. I bought a mystery box from etsy, a wooden box from the works to store them in and a book about them.

For the 2 year old how about happyland? My girls loved it at that age. Or plastic figures like schleich or wooden figures which people have posted the offers on. Maybe with a corresponding story? So some dinosaurs and the book 'the dinosaur who pooped Christmas' that was one of our favourites!! My girls at 5 still loved playing with figures and books.

Or a game each? Mine adore playing games and have done from a young age. At 2 the orchard toy range is perfect. 5 I would go for something like dobble, snakes and ladders, jenga or junior cluedo/monopoly. The 8 year old junior or disney colour brain, connect 4, battleship, bop it, exploding kittens, no more llamas, bugs in the kitchen, or a compendium of games. We have so many games but those are our favourites around those ages.

Ooh yes, I hadn't even thought to look second hand, great idea

EverydayIsPJday · 07/08/2022 12:58

Can anyone recommend a good brand for slipper boots please? I'm anticipating needing the warmth and spending alot of time on my bum feeding baby this winter so i think they would be a worthwhile investment. I will inevitably end up getting a second pair for mum for Christmas 😊 happy to spend a little bit if they don't go saggy if you potter about in them for a cuppa etc (I've had them before where the soles slip sideways after a while). Thanks 😊

FourTeaFallOut · 07/08/2022 13:03

I rate Moshulu slipper boots. They have a good rubber sole, don't do the slippy sideways thing and are incredibly warm.
