Do you give as many gifts as you would for your parent or give a token present or buy a joint present .

Just curious how you do things in other families

Depends on our relationship with them.

I'm a step mum and I don't expect anything from mine but they always get me thoughtful bits I'd like. No idea what they get their mum.

They usually between them get me a new book, wine, chocolate etc. all my favourite things.

When it's their presents we buy them all from both my dh and I. They each have the same value to spend.

I spend a little less on my step mother than on my dad to be honest. But then again, she is an absolute tool to be fair.

My step dad is just my dad as he raised me so treat him the same as my mam and siblings.

I have never bought for my stepmams, I barely know them and dont see them at xmas.

sorry that made it seem like I currently have multiple stepmothers lol... I have had 4 in 30 years (my bio dad gets bored it seems) but not at the same time lol.

My step kids get me the same amount as their dad. We get a bag of goodies each - wine, socks, pjs and smellies type things. We get on really well and I buy them crap all through the year when I see it for them though so it works both ways.

We help them get presents for their mum as well (even though they are late teens / adults) as they like to be able to treat her. She gets a similar amount to us, but we help tip the balance so it’s a bit more if that makes sense? She’s on Her own and money is tighter for her so it’s nice to be able to treat her. We get her prezzies from us as well separate to this.

That reads like you get multiple presents for your parent...? I do one present for parent, one present for step-parent. Pretty simple.

My husband bought the same gift for both his step parents as his own parents - books. He'd spend half a day in the bookshop finding just the right one for each person.
You could give a joint gift (like vouchers to the theatre).

Thanks all .

I have always been very generous with step parent but they are increasingly becoming not so nice to parent so am thinking of reigning it in a bit . Seems like most treat step parents equally to parent .

Are you my sister?!
Yes, same. Stepdad gets the same as my mum used to (she's dead), bio dad I may send a card but usually don't bother with a present, but he doesn't get me one either.

DSS is currently 10 so get a token gift from him and DS that realistically dad picks out. I do the same back to dad 'from' the boys.

In regards to presents for them, both kids have the same budget that comes out of the family pot.

I'm not sure how this will change as he gets older but have been in his life since he was 2 so he knows no different.

I don't have a stepdad but have a stepmum. She and my dad got together when I was in my teens. She is a nice woman and I think she's good for my dad but I don't really know her that well so wouldn't buy her anything. I think alot of this varies by situation. Where a step parent has played a significant ( and positive) part in a stepchilds childhood they may be treated more like family but every family dynamic is different so no right or wrong answer.
