How are you planning to buy gifts this year?

Do you have a budget in mind? Do you focus on quantity instead of budget? Are you going minimal or splurging? Buying throughout the year or later on? How are you thinking of doing it? Just curious :)

DH and I buy our own (from joint account ) I'll order from QVC/M&S
He'll buy from Amazon

Money for DS (his choice)
DD usually gives a list but I go shopping with her to get her to pick something .
DD and DS are adults (19 and 22) . I still do a hamper but it's Dec1st not Christmas Eve
Loungewear/Pyjamas (winter not Christmas)
Underwear (branded)
Toiletries
Sweets
Mug for DD

I buy the Dec 1st things in November ( the bags are years old and get dug out for the occasion Xmas Grin )

No changes planned , ir's worked ok, but my DC are dissapointingly laid back and I may need to trade them in Xmas Wink

No idea what I'm doing this year tbh.

Got ds1 (18) a festival ticket last year. If he enjoys it we could do the same I guess.

Ds2 (13) very tricky. Into anime and gaming but he has a gaming PC and streams all the shows and has loads of the books. He likes clothes and smellies so might go down that route.

Dns get cash and dh usually gets something to do with his hobby.

I have 15 nieces and nephews to buy for most of them are older so it's €20 each and €50 for godchildren. I have the money put aside for them for Christmas. I have two DC my son is nearly 11 so I put money aside for him have picked up a few bits for him too. I spend about €400/€500 on my Ds

My DD will be 7 at Christmas I'm finished her for Christmas she's very easy to buy for. My DD loves to draw so got her lots of arts and crafts bits a lovely desk and chair. She never asks for much at Christmas. I buy through out the year but I had money in December/January so started to pick a few bits up for my DD. I need to start early as I have so many to buy for and have 10 birthdays in the lead up to Christmas. I like to be organised and enjoy December without the stress.

Blimey! Now that is organised!

It's February.....
There are plenty of other religious days, festivals and events all through the year to celebrate first. Why not enjoy those rather than thinking about something that's months away?
To everything there is a season....

foreverandalways · 25/02/2022 13:52

IS THIS A JOKE

Opal8 · 25/02/2022 13:57

This IS the Christmas topic......

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2022 16:18

It's February .....

Nearly March !

LowlyTheWorm · 25/02/2022 16:26

We are in the Christmas topic @Legoisthebest and @foreverandalways so it’s fair game here all year round to discuss Christmas.

I’m going to try to buy more local and small company gifts and less Amazon. And do some experience stuff too this year.

Then in December do xmas stuff like days out etc so the overall cost will be similar but less “stuff” and more fun.

Opal8 · 25/02/2022 16:31

I did really well last year considering that I got no requests or ideas from the dc!

They loved their gifts and as usual the favourites were the cheapest last minute things 😊🙄

Opal8 · 25/02/2022 16:33

I refuse to shop in December!

Advent for me is about relaxing, decorating the house, making nice treats to eat, watching trashy Xmas TV.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2022 16:36

I am hoping for some more planned days out -
There were no Christmas Markets on , DH and I were booked for a trip (coach) to the Bath Christmas Market and a designer outlet with hotel and B&B EM , but of course it was cancelled by Covid ( 2020)

DD and I went to an ABBA Tribute for our night out (plus pizza )

Mirrorball2022 · 25/02/2022 16:36

@70isaLimitNotaTarget @Opal8 it’s the Christmas topic people post all year round!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 25/02/2022 16:37

I’ve already decided that the eldest child is likely to get a games console of some kind. As sainsburys didn’t do a double up nectar points event we currently have almost £200 worth. We will have enough for a console soon. So I’ll either buy from Argos and use the nectar points or use the points for a few grocery shops and use the money for the console.
The rest of the Xmas money comes from doing the penny savings challenge through my current account.

Thatsplentyjack · 25/02/2022 16:39

Same as I do every year. Leave it till thw last minute, panic about how we will afford it, spend far too much in one go and be skint January and February 🤣

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2022 16:40

@Mirrorball2022

I know , I'm on the Countdown thread all year Xmas Grin
I love a bit of Christmas Chatter .

I was just reminding Lego if they keep thinking its February , they're a whole month behind already Xmas Grin

Mirrorball2022 · 25/02/2022 16:40

Sorry @Opal8 wrong tag I meant @foreverandalways

Back to Topic I will be buying gifts. I don’t have a set budget but I tend to spend the same ish. I don’t spend huge amounts for each though. Eg £20 on nieces/nephews/friends. More on partner and my dad. Sisters get a token gift as I buy their kids or give them money.

Small amount for extra food/drinks £50 say, not including Christmas Day.
I’d rather spend more on nights or days out/meals and socialising in December tbh.

Mirrorball2022 · 25/02/2022 16:41

@70isaLimitNotaTarget sorry got my tags wrong

No worries Xmas Wink

buckeejit · 25/02/2022 16:44

I'm going for more experience gifts. Got tickets to see the lion king & it was dd's fave gift & we had something to look forward to after Christmas. So may even book a holiday & have smaller gifts. I'm trying to declutter which I try to do every year then have a load of Christmas stuff to sort & store. It's exhausting!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/02/2022 16:45

I'm going to buy a few bits each month I think. Only one or two as I don't have a huge amount of people to buy for. I got a couple of things in New Years sales. I need to be organised though and keep a spreadsheet as I'm terrible for forgetting what I have bought.

Mrsbmama · 25/02/2022 16:55

Usually we end up last minute shopping without any organisation and its pretty stressful if im honest. I'm aiming to buy early this year and not splurge last minute - I'm definitely sticking to a budget and aiming for less "toys" because after family buying for them as well its just too much and I noticed Christmas just gone they got a little overwhelmed with the amount of toys to play with. And me tidying them away 😂 its also my DS birthday on Christmas eve so it's just manic AF 🙈
