Am I a humbug?

I like to get them up, but hate doing it, and as soon as Christmas day has gone I am just itching to get them all down again as they drive me nuts!

Any one else like this?

How soon are you reaching for the boxes to get everything down and packed away into the loft?

OOOH, I'm the same. I think it must be some sort of chemical reaction in the Christmas dinner. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the decs the whole time they are up, but on the 26th i'm itching to get them down. Probably will start on friday.

Maidamess · 26/12/2007 12:10

Everything looks dead dusty.

There's toys, pine needles, bits of fluff and assorted crapola all over my lounge carpet, so I can't wait to clear the whole lot away.

Humbug, anyone?

niceglasses · 26/12/2007 12:11

ITs not all over surely? Christmas as a season lasts till 12th night - its not one day! Usually take mine down on the 2nd after ds1s bday, but I like to see them until 12th night.

edam · 26/12/2007 12:12

Exactly, Anna! We are going for a hearty walk with a bunch of friends today, then back to their house for mince pies and mulled wine. Then visiting various relations for the rest of the week - it's still Christmas round here!

oxocube · 26/12/2007 12:15

tomorrow. The kittens have climbed the tree so many times that the tinsel and lights are hanging precariously and half the baubles have either been smashed or have rolled under the sofa . Can't wait to take it all down. Even the kids are in agreement.

MrsGrinch · 26/12/2007 12:16

This is why people feel so stressed about Christmas - the feeling that it's just one day - it isn't. It's not all over, enjoy the next week at least.

VictorianSqualor · 26/12/2007 12:18

I wouldnt say that is why people get stressed. I don't get at all stressed over xmas, for us it is xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day.
I don't get stressed because I'm not that kind of person, nothing really stresses me out.
People get stressed because they think it needs to be perfect.

MrsGrinch · 26/12/2007 12:23

lol - that actually sounds like quite a stessed post VS

That's what I mean though - one day that has to be perfect. If more people viewed Christmas as a longer period of celebration - the fact that the roast were soggy or the sprouts overcooked wouldn't matter so much.

Ha, reading it back it does sound quite stressed. But yh, I don't see the big deal over the dinner, it's only a roast fgs, I do one every week.
Laughter is the most important thing to me at xmas, not perfection.

MrsGrinch · 26/12/2007 12:32

Me too VS - I have to say though that my turkey was perfection.

Enjoy yourself

mumeeee · 26/12/2007 13:20

Why do people want to take them dowm so soon! Christmas isn't over here. only dd1 is working today and she is only doing a short day. The rest of us will have a relaxing day doing our own thing thenat DD1's request we are going to hve a family tea with more nice stuff to eat!
Tomorrow we are going down to my Mum and Dads for a big family party where all the children will get thier presents from my side of the family.
We didn't even finish putting the decorations up until Sunday so won't be taking them down untill 6th January.

Sidge · 26/12/2007 13:23

The children go back to school on the 3rd January so we'll probably do it on the 1st or 2nd.

We don't have masses up anyway, just the tree, mantelpiece garland and cards.

BadKittenInAPearTree · 26/12/2007 13:52

Its not over at all - its the time we can really enjoy the fruits of our labour! After all the busy-ness (and stress) can relax, enjoy and celebrate

yULeYSEES · 26/12/2007 13:57

taking tree down soon as the floor is covered in needles. Hate doing it though.

Shitemum · 26/12/2007 13:58

On 6th of January or bad luck. We don't put them up, or tree either, till the 22nd or 23rd.
Have you lot not heard of the 12 days of xmas? The 3 wise men didnt get there till the 6th of Jan.

AbbeyA · 26/12/2007 14:03

I think it is very weird to have everything up so early! I finally got everything finished on Christmas Eve. Christmas has just started!!

hatwoman · 26/12/2007 14:20

still christmas here too. got 40-odd people round for New Year's Eve so will take decs down after that. I love having them up - but won;t put them up until the last weekend before christmas. hate putting them up too early.

suedonim · 26/12/2007 16:05

Christmas has only just begun!!! Dh doesn't get home until Friday so his presents are still under the tree. I've had folk round today and plenty of other social events are still in the pipeline. I think it's weird to consider 25th Dec as the end of the festivities.

AbbeyA · 26/12/2007 16:42

I agree suedonim that it is very strange to consider 25th as the end of the festivities!!
I start on Christmas Eve and this is the holiday-I refuse to go near a shop. I buy my tree fresh, I choose it in a field growing and so it will be OK on 12th night, needle loss will be negligible.

suedonim · 26/12/2007 17:19

Usually our tree goes up the weekend before Christmas and it's ok until 6th January. I buy a non-drop one; they're worth the extra.

This year I wasn't even in the UK until 15th Dec and I've managed to pull Christmas together for everyone in just 10 days (and with a horrid cold) so I'm jolly well going to enjoy it for a bit longer!

To me, the idea that Christmas is over on 25th Dec is like saying that getting presents is all that matters. Gifts are an important part for most people, of course, but for me the days after 25th are days for relaxing and socialising and doing things you generally don't have time for in every day life.

ibblewob · 26/12/2007 17:38

This morning! Only because we have a tiny flat and I really needed to space back. Christmas cards are still up though, will take them down when I remember. Probably won't be for ages as they don't get in my way - our birthday cards stay up for weeks!

Bauble99 · 26/12/2007 20:01

The tree comes down when it has died, but Christmas cards stay up until 12th Night.

eandh · 26/12/2007 20:09

tomorrow as its dd2 1st birthday next week and I'd like the house looking normal for a few days plus I need the space where the tree is for the mountains of toys they seem to have received
