calm down and stop panic buying. YOu can still buy milk and bread on boxing day or at the very latest-the day after!

But who in there right mind would want to go shopping on boxing day or the day afterwards?

We get it all in so that we can bunker down and enjoy lots of time together doing family things, without having to go near a shop

santaslittlebumper · 23/12/2007 13:32

and if you run out drink beer instead of tea or coffee and eat selection boxes for breakfast

FranSanDisco · 23/12/2007 13:33

Newsagent Shop near me will be open on Xmas day for the morning. I've already been called a cucking funt, or something similar, today for driving down the road at 30 mph and not 120 mph . Obviously all the food was sold out when Mr Happy got there because of me!

mustrunmorewantsanewname · 23/12/2007 13:34

Our corner shops are open on boxing day.

motherinferior · 23/12/2007 13:34

Surely 'we've run out of X' is the perfect excuse for escaping the hellhole bosom of yer family on Boxing Day?

mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 23/12/2007 13:34

lol @ chocolate breakfast!

motherinferior · 23/12/2007 13:35

You can spin out 'just nipping out for milk' for quite a long time if you work at it.

awayinNaeManger · 23/12/2007 13:36

surely if you are that hard up on christmas day you could find a corner shop.
All the shops near us have runs out of milk and bread already. THERE'S STILL 2 MORE DAYS!

wait....maybe they know something we don't....is the world ending? better google it just to be sure...

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 23/12/2007 13:37

I've just got back from the shops and there wasn't many people about in my high street. Mind I didn't venture near a Tescos or anything foolish like that . Just in and out of Woolworths for new tapes and Somerfield for some flour (for the bread maker so we can have fresh bread every day).

It is pretty foggy here though - maybe that's keeping people at home.

maybe you can only get bread and milk if you pre-ordered it with a wii last week

Snaf · 23/12/2007 13:41

Who needs bread and milk anyway? Chocolate and booze works just fine for me...

santaslittlebumper · 23/12/2007 13:42

my mum and dad used to own a shop.they always opened for a couple of hours on christmas day.the things that people used to come in for and that was in the 80's lol

awayinNaeManger · 23/12/2007 13:43

nope.i checked, the world is not ending int he next couple of days. i repeat THE WORLD IS NOT ENDING.
that is all.

tillykins · 23/12/2007 13:47

I'm with snaf

needmorecoffee · 23/12/2007 13:50

people do seem to be going a bit nuts. Is it my imagination or does this frenzy worsen every year?

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 23/12/2007 13:55

Sorry but i agree the shops are mad, people spend fortunes & it does get worse every year, it's as if the world is going to end & we won't be able to go near anohter shop for at least 6 months.

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2007 13:57

It wouldn't be quite so bad if everyone didn't then spend January paying off their debts/trying to lose the weight they have gained!!

BadKittenInAPearTree · 23/12/2007 14:02

If the world is truely going to end - do we need bread and milk?

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 24/12/2007 17:24

The cars were queueing up for Tescos today - they were even managing to block a roundabout at the start of a dual carriageway today. I had to go around the roundabout twice and take an alternate route back from work today. Mind they might equally have been queuing for the petrol station on the other side of the road. Don't want to be running out on Christmas day now .

I bet half the food bought in a mad rush will end up in the bin as well. Now that is a waste.

myrrhthamoo · 24/12/2007 17:33

"Bargain Booze" near us is open Christmas Day so we'll be fine even if we run out of Special Brew and B&H.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 24/12/2007 18:01

I must admit I wanted to get some more Guinness - I've developed a bit of a taste for this recently - but I wasn't going to queue for yonks in traffic and then have to batter my way through the aisles to get it.

Or not.

saadia · 24/12/2007 18:33

at least one of our local shops opens on Christmas Day - a sort of general grocery store.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 24/12/2007 18:38

I think there's always been shops open on Christmas day if you know where to look. I'm sure it's only relatively recently (within the last 70 years or so?) that shops have closed for Christmas.

southeastastra · 24/12/2007 18:40

we always have one 7-11 type place that it always open. we go out for a walk in the evening to escape mil to get some air.
