Going to book to go to one of these tomorrow with teens.

Has anyone been?
Which is better??

Trip advisor not too helpful.

COVID ruined all our plans this Xmas so I really want it to be a good evening out!
Plus I’m pretty low on funds but want to do just one thing to mark the school hols.

Or shall we just go into town to see the London Xmas lights?

Wakehurst finishes tomorrow and you may need to budget parking on top.

FancySomeChips · 01/01/2022 20:15

Thanks for replying… have you been??
Parking is free
We would visit tomorrow

No, was tempted but potential parking cost was off putting. It wasn't clear if it was included as normally you pay on top of entry fee. Might reconsider if free as not far from us.

FancySomeChips · 01/01/2022 20:19

It’s def free!

I did wakehurst and loved it. Haven't been to the other one though so can't compare.

BurntToastAgain · 01/01/2022 20:21

I went to the Manchester lightopia and it was good. I’d imagine the London version would be good too.

BalloonSlayer · 01/01/2022 20:21

You have to book a parking ticket at Wakehurst but it's free.

It's very nice but the one at Kew Gardens is much better. Don't know about Crystal Palace, sorry.

LadyCluck · 01/01/2022 20:21

Wakehurst was beautiful. Been twice now. Parking was free.

Not been to the other location.

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2022 20:23

We did Lightopia - thought it was good. Lots of teens (as well as every other age!) and they looked to be enjoying it Smile

FancySomeChips · 01/01/2022 20:25

Are wellies essential??

Lightopia CP was lovely and quite a long walk with lots of lights. They get the dinosaurs involved too. There are paths but wellies are good if your kids want to detour across some of the grassy bits.

BalloonSlayer · 01/01/2022 20:33

You don't need wellies at Wakehurst as you stay on the paths, although they are wet and a little muddy it's not necessary to have wellies.

FancySomeChips · 01/01/2022 20:34

Hhmmmm still can’t decide!
Thanks though!!

Parts of Wakehurst get quite puddly. I haven’t been to Glow Wild, but have been to Wakehurst in the daytime and walked around the light up paths, and we all wished we were wearing wellies!

OneLlamaOpenSleigh · 01/01/2022 20:36

I love Glow Wild and I think this year’s is the best I’ve been to there, but it’s a lot more low-key than most other light trails - so not as great for Instagram if your teens are bothered about that Grin

Never been to Lightopia so don’t know how that compares.

FancySomeChips · 01/01/2022 20:39

@OneLlamaOpenSleigh, I was just considering this 🤣

bigTillyMint · 02/01/2022 10:56

No wellies needed at Lightopia - all on paths. But children love wellies Grin
