I am wondering what to have for dinner on christmas eve that is yummy but does not involve too much cooking or prep. What will you be eating?

My mouth is watering after all those ideas. I'm quite sold on the take away option or eating out now. Maybe fish and chips yum.

i have family staying over on christmas eve so that they can see the dd's opening presents on christmas morning.

we are having smoked salmon and prawns (in homemade seafood sauce) with salad for starters.

pork with apple and apricot stuffing, roast potatoes and nice veg for mains.

home made merangue (cant spell it) nests with raspberries and cream for pudding.

then coffee and mints.

dd1 (6) has written out menus/place settings for the guests and is in charge of taking drinks orders

We're having feta and leek quiche with potato wedges and either salad or veg.

I have the following plan (stealing from watz):

Saturday - Beef casserole in red wine with mash and kale (leftover from tonight and it was yummy)
Sunday - Pasta and meatballs in tomato sauce
Monday - leek and feta quiche, wedges, veg/salad
Tuesday - at MILs for turkey etc
Wednesday - sausage/ham with mash and roast veg for 12.
Thursday - either left overs from Weds or I have some chilli in the freezer
Friday - off to Mum and Dads

not sure if this has been said, but we do xmas dinner on xmas eve!

The whole family gets together, MIL cooks xmas dinner, we all eat drink and be merry.

Xmas day, we get up when the kids get up, we stay in our jarmers all day playing with their toys, eat turkey sarnies for lunch and have turkey curry for dinner, it is soooo stress free - it means that no one has to spend hours in kitchen prepping dinner and missing the fun.

Also we had a few years of MIL getting pissed while cooking and falling asleep at the dinner table on xmas day, so we decided to switch, been brill ever since.

we have friends over from early evening for a buffet.
must remember to tidy as I go this year so no big mess on xmas morning

I buy a massive ham and roast it with honey and cloves served with mini jacket potatoes, salad, dips and home made chutneys. Its fab cos there is always loads left over for sarnies - a bit of a rest from the turkey!

Pizza, easy to eat whilst wrapping all the presents ( every year I swear I will wrap them up earlier ), oh and does a Baileys count as pudding?

Never had a tradition with this really but will be something yummy! lol Takeaway sounds like a good idea, nice and easy and means DH and I can relax for the evening with mulled wine, coffee etc while we sort the presents etc

I like to bake on xmas eve day - mince pies, vegetarian scotch eggs, quiche etc so maybe bits like that for dinner instead.
