I am downloading a load of carols onto discs for workplace on Christmas eve...we have a tradition - before Christams Eve - pop songs. Christmas Eve - Strictly Carols!!

I ahve a notion of favourites already...Oh Little Town of Bethlehem etc.

Are there any that come slightly under the radar of popularity, but you love to hear, and can recommend??

Please??

Good King Wenceslas (is that a carol?)

O Come All Ye Faithful

when a knight won his spurs, in the stories of old.

he was gentle and brave, he was gallant and bold, with a shield on his arm and a lance in his hand, through god and through valour..

or is that not a carol

DeePandcrisPandeven · 20/12/2007 23:24

Lewis...not sure if it is a carol....but it's always worth a vote!

Oh yes, anything by Herbert Howells. 'Sing Lullaby' is also beautiful. Benjamin Britten Ceremony of Carols chills my spine.

DeePandcrisPandeven · 20/12/2007 23:33

jura - I can't keep up!!

But some of these are fab, and ALL of them are being checked out. Having trouble with Darke but will persevere...they are the sort of discs that will be lovely to keep for years to come. Thank you all.

There's a lovely setting of "There is no Rose" by Arnold Bax. And the Britten setting from Ceremony of Carols is great too.

Tavener The Lamb is fab

pinetreedog · 21/12/2007 07:12

'when a knight' was one of my favourites back in my school assemblies in engerland

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 21/12/2007 07:20

Little Donkey!

My all time favourite is Once in Royal David's City, followed by O Little Town of Bethlehem

pinetreedog · 21/12/2007 07:23

(I mainly mentioned little donkey because \I brought it up last year and the real musical mnetters said it was not a real carol and it was crap . Admittedly, it doesn't sound very skilful)

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 21/12/2007 07:27

I said Little Donkey becasue I like it!. Especially when sung by children

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/12/2007 07:43

Shameless hijack! Saltire, how are you, pop into the staff room (my one not Shoshs! ) and give us an update on the CM front!

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 21/12/2007 07:49

Mo -I need to go to work, am starting early today to cope with the crowds of shoppers who expect to get served first because they are the only shoppers in the whole place!. Will pop in later

you wouldn't like the version of little donkey my kids sing.
Little donkey,
Little donkey,
On the m25.
Got run over,
By a rover,
Is he dead or alive?

Much better than the original IMO (Which I loathe!)
