All that preparing and cooking and I hardly ate any dinner

Was anyone the same? Everyone else enjoyed it. I did do 3 small joints instead of one big turkey (went for a carvery last week and thought I do a mixture) and loads left over inc veg and know I will enjoy it more tomorrow heated up and cold cuts etc. Think it's just being hot and cooking etc.

Whenever I cook a big roast I end up eating hardly any of it, I assume it’s because I’ve spent so long smelling it whilst cooking that it suppress my appetite or just that I’m weirdly satisfied so can’t eat.
I always cook extra and enjoy it more the next day.

Comedycook · 25/12/2021 17:07

Yes I always feel like that when Im the cook!

Theunamedcat · 25/12/2021 17:09

I picked most the sausages and ate them so I wasn't too hungry

onedayoranother · 25/12/2021 17:12

Ditto. Must be being around the food for hours just takes away my appetite. I love Christmas dinner but this year we ate too early (my son requested we eat at 2 rather than the more usual 4ish). I feel stuffed though and am taking a break (and I notice two of the pets are in my room too having had too many treats from their stockings)! I'll go back down in an hour for dessert and a game.

Belledan1 · 25/12/2021 18:15

Glad I am not the only one. I hope you all enjoy your food a bit more tomorrow.

I WISH was like this, always overeat Blush

NumaNumaYay · 25/12/2021 18:18

Me too - even dh and the kids didn't eat as much as usual - think we had a bigger and later breakfast than usual. Looking forward to a basic cheese sandwich this evening!

Did feel a bit horrible about the amount we chucked - salvaged as much as possible for tomorrow. But I did hardly any prep as it was mostly Cook (therefore expensive) and had way overdone the bacon/sausagemeat items. Must remember to keep it simple next year.

GoGoGretaDoll · 25/12/2021 18:21

I always take the streaky bacon off the top of the bird so the skin can brown, with good intentions of serving it up. Then I eat it. Then I wonder why I'm not that hungry...

Blueducks · 25/12/2021 18:24

I always enjoy it more on Boxing Day when I haven’t been cooking it all morning. I make sure there’s enough so I get to enjoy my Boxing Day meal.
Really looking forward to hitting the cheese and biscuits later!

ExquisitelyDecorated · 25/12/2021 18:42

Me too but I also nibble at the bacon off the top of the turkey. Zero interest in leftovers the next day too, I'm done with it all till next year. I do enjoy cooking it though.

WheelieBinPrincess · 25/12/2021 19:17

Yes, totally. I put all that effort into cooking a beautiful dinner and when it came to it, I had to serve mine on one of the Sylvanian Family plates and I still struggled to manage it.

There is trifle in the fridge but I just can’t, I shan’t eat anything but dust now until the 5th of January.

CoolShoeshine · 25/12/2021 19:36

Yea me too! I did eat some but I was so hot after cooking I really didn’t fancy it. I also had high hopes after buying the most expensive turkey ever. The roast potatoes were nice but I found the rest repulsive.

Belledan1 · 25/12/2021 21:32

It's so much nicer if someone cooks it for you. I just had a bit of cold gamon on its own and one chocolate

I’m always absolutely exhausted by the time dinner is served and don’t enjoy it hardly at all. I wish Christmas was more relaxed to be honest and would enjoy a much easier meal to prepare. I think the whole thing is exhausting even though there are lovely elements to it. I think I will plan for next year to find a way to shortcut the bits I don’t enjoy.

mejon · 25/12/2021 23:04

Yes! I thought it was just me. It was 2.30 by the time we ate and I'd done it all (tiny violin!) as I just find it easier without others getting in the way. Maybe delegation is the way? I don't eat breakfast either so all I've had all day is a couple of small roasties, some turkey and a bit of veg. l love stuffing etc. but left most of it. Haven't felt hungry this evening either. Will have the leftovers as bubble & squeak tomorrow with far less stress

Belledan1 · 26/12/2021 11:54

Yes I am going to be more organised next year. Ohh bubble and squeak, I think we might have that instead of heating up the veg etc.

This is why I go for the lazy option. Pop chicken with stuffing in oven (not a fan of turkey), an hour after that goes in pop frozen roast potatoes and parsnips in the oven and the pigs in blankets, 10ish minutes before theyre done add the Yorkshire puddings and pop the veg in the steamer and then gravy granules with the water from the veg just before serving. It might not taste as good as if prepped from fresh, but I don't fancy being in the kitchen all day (and this way DH helps without ruining the food), but it tastes lovely still and doesn't take very much time to do so still feel like eating it.

Northernsoullover · 26/12/2021 12:22

I didn't eat much of mine either Sad I knew I wouldn't because it's always the way when I've cool it. Everyone else cleared their plates though so it was definitely good.

janicewheeler · 26/12/2021 12:58

There is just too much of it, a sunday dinner fills me up as it is let alone then pigs in blankets, sprouts with bacon, parsnips etc
I like it but after cooking it all my appetite goes out the window. We do salvage what we can though for bubble and squeak today 😋

TheCatShatInTheHat · 26/12/2021 13:03

I loved mine! Ate a massive plate, but I hadn't eaten all morning and we had the roast at 3. I also didn't pick at anything.

Belledan1 · 26/12/2021 18:46

I ended up having it all warmed up again. I did enjoy it more but even though over weight, I am a picker, I dont think I cant cope with massive meals anymore. Makes me feel uncomfortable. But has stopped me picking. Think its age. It was nice though and left overs were in foil containers so hardly any washing up except the plates and cutlery. Tomorrow it's cold meat, oven chips and salad.

I'm the same, I always seem to get a bad belly every Christmas cos I stress myself so bloody much and then half the day is just spent cooking and then I just don't have the appetite.
Dh and dd have been ill with covid so postponed dinner yesterday as it would have been a waste, and I actually had time to enjoy the day! Just chilled on the sofa with blankets and chocolates and watched TV.
Made dinner today instead and enjoyed it much more. May be the way forward!

stuntbubbles · 26/12/2021 19:07

I don’t actually like roast dinner so always volunteer to cook it, so I can be in the kitchen gorging on crisps and pork pies etc, to make up for not eating much of the meal. I’m much more excited by leftovers tea – cold cuts, stuffing, gherkins, pickled eggs, nice bread, etc – and Boxing Day sandwiches. Which is why I continue with a roast in the first place: for all the glorious sub-meals it inspires.
