Just watching a friends Insta and it looks amazing. Going to try and save to take the kids when they’re older. Much prefer that as a big expense to Disney.

But does anyone know approx cost; if going all out with the sleds, Santa, northern lights etc?

Not for Christmas but in February yes. Brilliant. Easy to do yourself without having to do a tour and costs around half what an organised trip would. We stop did lots of sledging, skiing, reindeer etc and saw the northern lights. Plus our little self catering wooden lodge had its own sauna.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 24/12/2021 21:45

That’s a genius tip Oakley.

Friend dixon an organised dag trip and absolutely hated in. Everything was timed so no room for anything spontaneous. Freezing and miserable the whole day.

WinterWeather1 · 24/12/2021 22:11

I went on Christmas day as a child. It was truly magical and I still remember it 20 years later! It was a very long day though with flights there and back so I would see about staying a night or two.

Stompythedinosaur · 24/12/2021 22:11

We did a four day (three night) trip with Canterbury Travel about four years ago. It was excellent, really memorable, but was also really expensive for what it was. Something like 7-8k for six of us. It was really well organised, and all the meals and activities were included, and the dc still talk about it.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 24/12/2021 22:16

We did it as a (very long) day trip around 15 years ago, it was brilliant, I chose it over Disney and was glad. We went at around 4am and didn't get back till midnight. Did the husky ride, reindeer, toboggan, story's in a candle lit wigwam, saw santa, went to a shopping village in the Arctic circle, completely knackering but worth it.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 24/12/2021 22:19

We went to Rovaneimi (sp?) in Finland in Dec 2019. Went on 18th and returned 22nd. Truly Magical. Had it all organised and stayed in a Hotel. Did everything but didn’t see the Northern lights sadly.
Two adults and a six year old cost about £5k I think.

It was very expensive but we will only do it once so happy to suck up the cost. Oh and we booked at the start of January to give us time to save.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 24/12/2021 23:41

Went in Dec 2019 - thank god!
Went with Tui - £2300 half board for 2 adults and a child half board bit had to take child out of school.

Have been to quite a lot of places but this was one of the best holidays l have ever had. Absolutely magical.

I took my daughter 27 years ago and we still remember everything. We did all the activities but not the story as we were too cold. The best thing I have ever done was the Husky ride at high speed in the dark and through the trees. I also drove a snowmobile which was fun but quite hard work. The magic started when it got dark and they lit candles everywhere. When I smell candles it is a reminder. Santa was amazing and we posted our Christmas cards from there.
I will take my granddaughter when she is about 7/8 as it really is too cold for younger children.
It cost me about £450 for the two of us for one day.

This is really insightful everyone, thanks. Will start a rainy day fund with a view of going in 3-4 years when they’re old enough to endure the long days/appreciate it

Following as I’m planning on doing this is about 3/4 years time. You can have a look on the tui website to get an idea of prices.

Shieldingending · 25/12/2021 21:58

We went with Santa’s Lapland for 3 nights. It was amazing, expensive but worth it

MondeoFan · 25/12/2021 22:33

Yes went in Dec 2019 stayed 4 nights. Stayed in Levi which was brilliant. Husky ride, snowmobile, reindeer ride and of course Santa at the beautiful Elves Hideaway in Sirrka. Plus spare time to do as we pleased. Cost £3,700 absolutely magical. Worth every single penny. That was 2 adults, DD4 and DD14

SummerSazz · 25/12/2021 22:57

We went to Finland with Magic of Lapland from 23-27 Dec. Was amazing and the dc still talk about it. Stayed in a log cabin by a lake rather than one of the ski resorts. We went snowmobiling, saw father Xmas on Xmas eve - trip over the frozen lake to his cabin with elves, reindeer farm, husky ride, tubing, ice hotel, ice tunnels, sauna and the northern lights. Was truly incredible and so memorable. Do it!!!!

Turtles4543 · 25/12/2021 23:05

Had an amazing three days with Santa’s Lapland.

MysteriousMonkey · 25/12/2021 23:12

Another really happy Santa's Lapland customer. We went for three nights about five years ago to Finnish Lapland and stayed in Sariselka I think. It was so expensive but awesome and the kids loved it. I think it cost around 6/7k for 4 children and 2 adults then. We went right at the beginning of Spet when it was a bit cheaper.

oohmamama · 25/12/2021 23:14

We won a trip there and it was superb. We went in March so the weather was slightly warmer. We slept in glass igloos and wooden huts with saunas. Did skidoo trekking and reindeer sledging.
I think we figured out it would have cost at least 5k in 2013. It was unbelievably magical.
