Help- meat still frozen!

We’re having topside for dinner tomorrow, hopefully anyway.

I got it out of the freezer last night and put it in the fridge but have just checked and it’s still completely solid, hard as a brick!

How can I defrost it before tomorrow? I’ve tried googling the answer but no luck.

Leave it out on a plate? It'll be fine

AmIgoinghomeforXmas · 24/12/2021 18:05

Take it out of the fridge.
Leave in a cool room.

NewBeta · 24/12/2021 18:06

Oh my days

gamerchick · 24/12/2021 18:07

Leave it out over night. It'll be fine, just no heating on.

LynetteScavo · 24/12/2021 18:08

Out it in cold water- for some reason it defrosts quicker - I think. Maybe.

plinkplinkfizzer · 24/12/2021 18:09

A fan will defrost it faster .

Elisheva · 24/12/2021 18:10

Put it in cold water

Cocoabutterformula · 24/12/2021 18:11

Just take it out of the fridge, of course it won't defrost in there or not for ages anyhow

RonniePickering · 24/12/2021 18:11

Wrap it in cling film and put a heavy pan filled with hot water on top of it. You may need a tea towel to help balance it.

Whenever I have followed the instructions to thaw anything in the fridge, it hasn’t thawed the tiniest bit. I do mine overnight on the side in the kitchen by the window, which is miles from a radiator, which won’t come on until after I’ve put the meat in the fridge or the oven anyway. I’m doing it with tomorrow’s beef right now.

All will be well!

HelloDaisy · 24/12/2021 18:39

Oh my days
Did you mean to come across so rude? Was there any need for a response like that? Is that how you would answer a friend asking you a question? We don’t all know the answers to everything in life…

I looked it up online first and all advice was it would defrost in the fridge in 24 hours which obviously hasn’t happened!

Thank you for all the helpful answers. I’ve left it on the side now so fingers crossed it will be fine by tomorrow. Not cooking tonight so it won’t get too hot in the kitchen.

I always defrost on the worktop. Defrosting in the fridge takes days

That’s what I’ve just learnt! Serves me right for relying with online information.

We’ve never had a frozen joint before as always bought it ready to cook. However dh is vulnerable so I’ve only had shopping delivered and obviously too early so had to freeze.

Leave out just not in a very warm room.

soapboxqueen · 24/12/2021 18:48

Nothing ever defrosts in the fridge. I always assume this advice is the result of a conspiracy by fridge manufactures.

Put it on the side to defrost or put it in cold water.

HeronLanyon · 24/12/2021 18:51

Good luck op. I don’t think I have ever defrosted anything in the fridge - it takes far too long ! As you have discovered. You should be fine.

I find that's the case too, don't worry OP you live and learn.

Grimchmas · 24/12/2021 18:52

Things do defrost in the fridge, they just take days! It's beer food hygiene practice but a pain in the ass.

I have a joint of beef that I got out of the freezer this morning and is shut in my spare room (away from the pets!) defrosting ready for tomorrow. Yours will be fine!

Grimchmas · 24/12/2021 18:53

Better* not beer

NOELnoelNOELnoel · 24/12/2021 18:56

@Grimchmas I like beer food standards better Grin

Whitefire · 24/12/2021 18:56

I always defrost meat on the side, I'm still going strong.

strengthinnumber · 24/12/2021 18:59

I always start things off defrosting in the side for a good few hours before moving them to the fridge. Speeds things up enormously

Exactly what I do. My frozen leg of lamb has been out from 8- 4 and then in the fridge overnight ready for tomorrow.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/12/2021 19:56

Put it in a metal container in a bowl of cold water. The metal is a good heat conductor, and so is water. In this case conducting heat from the water to the frozen food, but without the latter over-warming.
