Tangerine in stocking - a must have or bah humbug?

DH thinks I'm "harking back to your own Dickension childhood" when I said that I'd be putting tangerines in the LO's stockings from FC. This is in addition to the plethora of chocolate and plastic that will also be in there of course.

What's the score on fruit in the modern stocking then?

I used to put a tangerine in the stockings. Then one year I put a pretty white top in DD2 and DD3's stockings. DD3 managed to sit on her stocking, squash the tangerine and get juice al over the top! So I ended up washing the top on Christmas day to get the juice out. They never eat the tangerines anyway. o they don't get put in stockings now.

im really strict about chocolate/sweets normally, but our secret xmas cupboard looks like willy wonka's factory (but, sadly, without the oompaloompa's)

Thread hijack....... any ideas as to what I can put in an 11 year old boy's stocking? Satsuma, yes (although he won't eat it), chocolate coins of course, large tube of whatever...... and then? He has loads of Top Trumps and stationery for school. Stumped!

Had completely forgotten about sugar mice, but I always used to get one of those. Packet of smarties also.

The other day my dd 6 was talking about Santa and her stocking and said 'Isn't it amazing that the orange that Santa leaves in my stocking always tastes so much nicer than any other orange?'
So yes, I will be putting one in!

MrsGrinch · 20/12/2007 22:44

And the piece of coal my mum used to threaten me with.

I always remember getting a tangerine and apple and a 50p in the bottom of my stocking. I have never given the DSes a tangerine though, as have visions of them rolling it under the bed and leaving it there. My DB2 did this and mum found it a few weeks alter all mouldy!

Spagblog · 21/12/2007 07:20

A satsuma and some nuts in their shells plus gold coins...then the plastic gumpf

BadKittenInAPearTree · 21/12/2007 08:50

Lush bathbomb=modern alternative to tangerine!
