Just that really! I'm not very good with anything beyond carrots! Any top parsnip tips gratefully received!

I love parsnips...my favourite vegetable 😍

Never cut the middle out though...before reading this thread, I didn't even know it was 'a thing' 🤷‍♀️

Halved, drizzled in melted butter and honey, sprinkled with a little thyme, roasted in the oven...delicious 😍

Aunt Bessies....(oh the shame)

We cut ours into halves, or quarters for the bigger ones. No need to cut the centres out as they cook just fine. Parboiled then in a roasting tin with honey and mustard, they are lovely.

I just cook them the same timings and size chunks as roast potato, par boil and shake then into hot fat and roast

My solution is to cut off the bottom half, then slice down the top half so I end up with 3 roughly equal pieces. Otherwise the skinny end gets too crispy when it's roasted.

On the other hand, DH spends hours carefully whittling out the centre, which is why I never watch when he is preparing veg Grin

Mash them with cream and cheese. It’s the only way to eat parsnips.

Don't cut out the middle bit. Oar boil then toast. I find if they are not par boiled then they are tough

You are all wonderful!
I HATE trying to get the middle bit out so I'm just not going to!

Why would you even try to cut the middle bit out, it isn't woody?

Roselilly36 · 24/12/2021 13:53

DH always does, otherwise they can be tough to eat even when cooked well.
