Mince pie and blue cheese??

I saw someone on twitter recommend taking top off mince pie, add some blue cheese, heat, and eat.
Now I love both mince pies and blue cheese, but can't imagine them together - any MNers or there had this delicacy? Is it good? And if yes, are there any other Christmassy treats I've been missing??

Sounds amazing, especially with some creme fraiche

I have had a slice of Christmas Pudding fried in butter till crispy and served with a slice of stilton and that was an incredibly wonderful taste sensation. I imagine it would also work with a mince pie. But beware - I wouldn't try it with a cheap supermarket blue cheese which ime can be too sharp and would swamp the spicy sweetness - the posher end of the blue cheese options will have something with a rounder and milder flavour. Effectively the mince pie is acting as a chutney to the cheese - many chutneys basically aren't that different to mincemeat.

They would probably taste delicious, but only on the way down.

I think this was suggested by Jack Monroe

Oooh @SinoohXaenaHide that sounds yum!
I guess you're right about the mince pie being chutney like, mmmmm will definitely have to give it a try tomorrow Xmas Grin

Mmm. I might try this, sounds yum.

Mind you, I’d sprinkle blue cheese on my cornflakes if no one was watching

Mince pies are great with cheese, as is Christmas cake. I probably wouldn't bother with that faff, I'd just stick a bit of one with a bit of the other and insert into gob.

Been doing it for years but Jack is wrong to heat the cheese. Heat the pie, if desired, add cheese, scoff in 2 bites Grin

The cheese cuts through what can be very sweet and adds a tanginess.

Christmas cake with Wensleydale cheese. Pretty standard if you're in Yorkshire (Lancashire or Cheshire cheese works too) but my southern branch of the family thought I was offering them ground glass judging by their horrified reaction.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. Works really well.

Cheese and fruit is a pretty well established pairing

Stilton with apple pie and fruit (Christmas) cake with Wensleydale are pretty commonplace
