What are you having for dessert on the big day?

I got a lemon roulade from Iceland as I love lemon desserts. But I know my dcs and fussy friend probably wont like it so got an Aunt bessies sticky toffee pudding for them.

pradaville · 23/12/2021 15:15

Sticky toffee crown from Morrisons basically a fancy sticky toffee pudding.

I did buy all the stuff to do a pavlova incase we didn't get a decent dessert. So thankfully I don't have to do that as well as making the soup tomorrow as we are heading to family for the afternoon for lunch so will be limited on time.

@Redwinestillfine, I'd hardly call it a recipe, it's dead easy!
Just make a simple chocolate swiss roll mixture - there are loads of recipes online, such as the BBC good food one. Whisk the eggs for at least 8 mins to get a nice light sponge.
When it comes out of the oven in its flat tray, spread out a clean hot damp teatowel, with a sheet of greaseproof paper flat on top. Turn out the swiss roll onto the paper, then quickly roll it up with the paper so the paoer is inside each layer of the roll and round the outside too. (but not the wet tea towel, obvs!)
Drape the damp towel over the paper bundle to keep it moist, and leave it to cool.
Meanwhile, in a bowl whisk up some double cream until its really thick. Mix in a packet of the chestnut puree (Merchant Gourmet make a perfect size packet) and enough icing sugar to sweeten it to your taste.

When the roll is completely cool, gently unroll it, discard the paper, spread it generously with the cream and chestnut mix, then roll back up again (but without paper this time).
Next, melt some Nutella in the microwave just long enough to make it really runny.
Pour over the outside of the swiss roll, and if you like, fork it a little to roughen the surface and look more log like.
When it has set, and just before serving, sieve a tiny sprinkle of icing sugar over it to look like snow. I always pick a holly sprig from the garden, wash it, then wrap the stem in a little tin foil to avoid germs, and stick it lightly into the top of the log as decoration.
I make the log a few weeks ahead and freeze it, so I just have to decorate it on Xmas Eve, when time is short.

All homemade this year - choc trifle, raspberry pavlova and a Jane's Patisserie cheesecake (very easy and scrummy).

Ohdofuckoffcovid · 23/12/2021 16:16

Just made trifle and banoffee pie, also have ingredients for nutella xmas tree, cheesecake and rocky road!!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/12/2021 16:19

Homemade Christmas pudding with sticky toffee pudding as an alternative for those who don't like CP. Dessert usually eaten an hour/90 mins after the main course.

Egghead68 · 23/12/2021 16:20

Chocolates!!

I’m also making a sticky toffee trifle to eat at some point (bought sticky toffee pudding, extra toffee sauce, thick ready made custard, whipped cream and chopped roasted hazelnuts)

ChocolateCakeYum · 23/12/2021 16:33

M&S Yule log and a three layer sponge cake. Yum.

LongLiveTheQuern · 23/12/2021 16:36

A few laid out to choose from. Apple crumble, pumpkin pie, new York cheesecake with strawberries on the side, sticky toffee bundt cake. Nothing expensive, I'm just a good baker.

BOBBY232 · 23/12/2021 17:12

Oh loves Christmas pud... But I like something else lighter. Usually we end up with Christmas pud and mincepies cream and brandy butter, hard sauce,

Whattodo121 · 23/12/2021 17:16

I’ve made a treacle tart today for DS and I and DF and DH will eat Christmas pudding (I can’t stand it!) have also made millionaires shortbread and banana cake and will possibly make a lemon cheesecake for Boxing Day if I think we need it 🤔

furbabymama87 · 23/12/2021 17:22

I've got raspberry and white chocolate pavlova, Christmas pudding, chocolate after dinner mint bar, clementine cheesecake, chocolate trifle and a chocolate bombe with an assortment of creams and custard. Obviously won't eat it all on the one day, some will be eaten on New Year and whatever is left will be eaten whenever.

RenegadeMrs · 23/12/2021 17:24

Trifle for everyone but me (I hate it but everyone else loves it). Ice cream for me if I have space.

Also chocolate yule log and mince pies for later.

bearlyactive · 23/12/2021 17:27

On Christmas Day we're having a Sainsbury's panna cotta and I've made a raspberry coulis to go with it. On Boxing Day we've got a clementine and orange yule log and I've made an orange sorbet. On the 27th (we're entertaining again)... who knows?

actiongirl1978 · 23/12/2021 17:33

My parents will eat Xmas pudding or trifle. I'll have dark chocolate. DH will have his chocolate orange. DC have an Asda Sprout chocolate cake.

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/12/2021 17:43

Melting middle chocolate puddings with homemade ice cream for the adults.

Make your own ice cream sundae for the kids.

Redwinestillfine · 23/12/2021 18:51

@Babdoc thank you so much, it sounds lush!

Redkatagain · 23/12/2021 19:12

I'm going to have a go at orange and Cointreau trifle and I am going to make it with Jaffa cakes instead of trifle sponges.

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/12/2021 19:16

A big white coconut layer cake and chocolate bourbon pecan pie. I'm in the Southern US, and these are both very traditional for Christmas, especially the coconut cake.

OwlNChips · 23/12/2021 19:35

I have a small selection!

Sticky toffee pudding
Fruit trifle
Rodney reindeer cakes from M&S
Apple strudel

Lovemusic33 · 23/12/2021 19:59

Lemon roulade
Daim cake (kids choice)

We often eat it later in the evening as we are full after a big roast.

titchy · 23/12/2021 20:01

Mince pie/Xmas pudding/pannacotta with ice-cream/double cream/brandy cream.

Followed by cheese and biscuits
Grin

onedayoranother · 23/12/2021 22:04

Apple crumble and custard (though the one delivered isn't big enough so will have to get another) and Christmas cake.

fruitypancake · 23/12/2021 22:06

Thanks everyone, have enjoyed reading all your dessert plans

A profiterole gateau made by a local baker, we are collecting it tomorrow. His desserts are amazing so I’m really looking forward to it!
