Do you send/post many Xmas cards?

I was wondering as the custom is dying out isnt it. I am in my fifties and a few have died over the years. I send to people who live far away in particular. I seem to receive less every year!

Then again I only posted about 12 off and gave 2 to neighbours on both sides.

I think the neighbour next door stopped as she didnt give last year either any longer.

Not that I chat to both sides they are aloof but I am used to it.

Any thoughts? Do you enjoy doing cards every year? I have mixed feelings these days.

One. To my father who lives in another UK country. Used to send one to my grandmother, but she's allergic to cards (well, the chemicals in the pictures apparently) so I haven't bothered this year as she can't open it anyway. I'll write a letter in the new year instead.

Late 30s, sent about 50 and received around 40. Mostly posted so expensive with the cost of stamps. It's the same with birthday cards though - if you add up what people have spent on you buying them and sending them it's rather eye-watering and perhaps not really proportionate to the joy, which is relatively small joy really, they bring...

queenrollo · 22/12/2021 21:26

I sent about 50 this year. I have friends and family overseas who I do every year. Then I have a handful of people who I exchange letters with so they get theirs in a card. The rest are family and friends in the UK that are spread far and wide.
Last year I put a call out on my social media if anyone wanted to go on my list after the year we just had and lots of people really wanted to!
I've had about 35 sent to me, a few very personal hand drawn/painted from artist friends.
I really love the tradition of sending cards and am a little sad that it's a dwindling practice.

I sent fewer than 20 this year, mainly to older relatives that we never see, and a few to friends overseas/miles away. I don't bother with friends and neighbours I see often - I can wish them all the best in person.

Doublechins · 22/12/2021 21:54

Don't send a single one ever. Don't like receiving them either if I'm honest 🙈

I luv the idea of handmade cards.

I send about 50 cards, but that only involves posting about 18. The rest are handed out by hand. A quick count shows that I've had 33 so far this year. Most have got special hand-written messages in beyond names (as mine do too). I love the tradition. Mid-30s. I buy charity cards in the Christmas sales each year and pack them away with my Advent things.

Hairyfriend · 22/12/2021 22:14

I'm early 40's and have always done them. All my family live abroad, so I send them to immediate family and older relatives there- about 10 there now. Post 8 in the UK and hand delivered 8 to neighbours this year.

One thing I hate is receiving a card with no clear address on it and a scribble for a name!

Poppiesway1 · 22/12/2021 23:26

Usually I never send Christmas cards.. however this year I’ve sent many. I haven’t seen any of my family (near or far) since covid started so felt just sending a card to them to keep in touch this year would help. (Not all family on social media so some I don’t see their updates either)

DockOTheBay · 22/12/2021 23:47

We posted about 5 cards, to my grandparents, aunts and uncles. We also gave out/hand delivered 5 cards to DHs grandparents and aunts and uncles.

I think it is a generational thing. My grandparents get about 100 cards from all sorts of distant relatives, people they met on holiday 25 years ago, work colleagues from 20 years ago etc. I guess its nice but a bit silly in a way. We get about 10 cards, mainly from people we actually know and like but won't be seeing over Christmas for one reason or another.

CandyCane17 · 22/12/2021 23:48

I’m in my late 30s and send around 100 each year. I actually really like the process. When I was in my early 20s and broke, I would by 12 stamps each month, so it wasn’t a massive hit in December, but always sent them. It gets me in the Christmas spirit.

bananaboats · 23/12/2021 10:14

I'm early 30s and only send and recieve a handful, my inlaws don't do cards and we don't have any extended family on my side or know the neighbours so only my parents and a couple of friends to send to really.

bananaboats · 23/12/2021 10:15

The majority of people we know don't do them.

Ethelswith · 23/12/2021 10:17

I usually send cards, but it's down to about 20 now (used to be many more)

But this year, I kept putting off writing them, then a few other things cropped up, then it was too late. So I decided not to send any this year. I'm hoping that people won't notice!

Normal service will resume next year!!

lollipoprainbow · 23/12/2021 10:24

Only around ten but I love it and I love receiving them too.

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/12/2021 10:31

I haven't sent any cards for several years. I used to do all of them for both mine and DH wider family, sending about 100 cards. It got to the stage where us was sending a large envelope to SIL with all that side of the family's cards inside because the children of the family had grown up and got family of their own and I wasn't sure of correct addresses. (SIL lives local to most of them and we're at the other end of the UK). It got to the stage where it was MY job . So I stopped.

Helpstopthepain · 23/12/2021 10:35

I love doing cards!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/12/2021 10:44

I did cards for everyone on our little estate. Mostly because it’s a nice way to spend an afternoon with a three and four year old. They wrote their own names and then got excited about posting them.

onedayoranother · 23/12/2021 20:58

I am 59 and send out about 45 cards. They are pics of my kids - controversial I know. I don't give them to people I see a lot but more distant friends and relatives.
But we moved this year and post around here is awful. We get a delivery about once a week if lucky. And I haven't had a single redirected piece of mail for weeks (I've paid for mail to redirected up until August 2022). So I've only received about ten cards.
