I'm avoiding the Traditional Christmas dinner on Christmas day, what shall I have instead?

Conveniently , my oven is up the spout and we will be at my brother's on Christmas Eve, who is having traditional turkey and trimmings on 24th, and at BILs on Boxing Day. It will just be me, DH and DS (with DPs later in the day) on 25th, so not sure what to do, microwave jacket spuds??

POOKAingwenceslaslookedout · 20/12/2007 12:16

Will anyone deliver take-away? A lovely curry?

BadKittenInAPearTree · 20/12/2007 12:17

Get some nice cheeses and cold meats in, nice bread and crisps and just have a lovely nibbly grazing sort of day?

wessexgirl · 20/12/2007 12:18

I'm with BadKitten, I'd go the nice cold food route; there's tons you can have.

Get something lush to microwave from M & S, and, assuming your hob is still functioning, steam some veggies on that
Am suddenly filled with a curious sense of as we will be coaxing half a cow into our oven at 5.30m

PestohohohoMonster · 20/12/2007 12:20

I'd second M & S pig-out

Iklboo · 20/12/2007 12:20

We're having venison. Local box delivery company do it so we're having that for a change.
Do you want to really cook - or something quick, easy & tasty (just like me

Chinese takeaway are always open on Christmas Day!! they even do special christmas day deals etc..

I would go with that or somethigng from M&S.

LoveAngelGabriel · 20/12/2007 14:09

A big M&S cold and/or microwaveable blow out!

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 20/12/2007 14:12

I would go the cold food route too, lovely meats/cheeses/salads fresh bread pickles olives etcan a very over indulgent dessert.

lamb stew (on stove)
salad with feta, roasted jackets and peppers (bonfire)
bacon sarnies, ketchup and lots of chocolate?

Hulababy · 20/12/2007 14:15

I am cooking, for DH and DD, pan fried duck breasts with a marmalade glaze, with potato rosti and yellow/green courgettes and peppers. I am having a pan fried citrus cod.

Maidamess · 20/12/2007 14:19

We are going Italian! Because I will be eating 2 Christmas dinners this weekend, and I can't be arsed to spend Christmas Day until 3pm in the kitchen.

My Dh is doing the cooking, so we will have picky appetisers, PIZZA'S! salady bits, lots of wine. And crackers (Christmas, not Jacobs) And it will take 20 mins to cook and will def. ALL get eaten! Can't wait!

Mmmmmmm, thanks for scrummy ideas (drool)! Hulababy, that sounds delicious.
Thinking I will be splashing out in M&S then.
