Unwrapped presents

One of my family has just handed me a carrier bag with my my presents in it. None of them are wrapped. Is that ok? They're not remotely interested in the environment so it won't be because of that. It feels a bit contemptuous... or is it just lazy?

That’s rubbish OP. Really rude

TheCreamCaker · 22/12/2021 14:12

That's bone idle and crap.

user1493494961 · 22/12/2021 14:19

Lazy.

Stade197 · 22/12/2021 14:20

Thats lazy, if they couldnt be bothered to wrap them they could have a least put them in a christmas gift bag

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 22/12/2021 14:22

My MIL did that last year and said Santa had left them at hers, the DH moved them as they DCs were only 4 and 2 and the magic is still here.....she is just lazy!

HalloHello · 22/12/2021 14:25

My grandmother in law wraps half of the stuff she sends and then just chucks in other random crap. It's lazy and weird.

Your relative could at least put it in a gift bag and tape it shut!

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 22/12/2021 14:25

Bill and sil do this all the time. Sil also then posts facebook posts about shes wrapped all her presents and how kind she is with picture of wrapped presents. Ours are in a carrier.
Theyve now moved to less effort with amazon gift cards...which arrive several days after birthdays
It's just rude and lazy (obviously accounting for specific reasons why people arent able to wrap)

AngelsEyeball · 22/12/2021 14:32

Could have used a gift bag with some paper over the top if they couldn’t be bothered to wrap them

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 22/12/2021 14:33

My mum does this with the kids presents - just hands them over to me unwrapped and i have to wrap them.

My MIL is worse. She sends a cheque which arrives here on xmas eve, necessitates a trip into town by us in the new year as we always go on holiday boxing day. cheque is cleared about mid-january. Then I have to go out and buy stuff with the money.

It fucking sucks and it's lazy lazy lazy.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 22/12/2021 14:34

My DB chucked all our gifts into a single and way too big gift bag. He wrote our names on the individual packaging in black sharpie. Half of it will go straight to charity so glad we haven't had to waste time unwrapping anything. Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 22/12/2021 14:36

I have a few friends who put in gift bags then tape the top, but that's the minimal acceptable effort imo

TheNewGnuKnew · 22/12/2021 14:37

My first Christmas with my now ex husband, he handed me my present in a Tesco carrier bag Xmas Hmm

Annteeta · 22/12/2021 14:38

It gets worse - I looked in the bag and and there's a small book and amaryllis bulb and some antibacterial cleaner with two tubs of hand wash - the type that looks like it's been stolen from a nursing home. This is my Dad.

Does he work in a nursing home... Hmm

Lottle · 22/12/2021 14:51

I guess it does depend on who it's for and what it is. I'd never wrap a box of biscuits for example. I'd worry the recipient would think it was going to be better than it was! I don't think bottles always need to be in a bottle bag. In your circumstances I guess if expect them to be wrapped. Has he handed you the right bag?!

I usually wrap everything, it's a hang-over from when the girls were small and they liked unwrapping things. Memo for next Christmas, do not buy small tubs of Celebrations, they're a sod to wrap, Matchmakers next year!

You don't HAVE to..... if the kids have a problem with it, I'd direct them to her.

PlanBea · 22/12/2021 15:25

My MIL does this and it irrationally irritates me - so some of the gifts will be wrapped then there will be random unwrapped socks/chocolates/whatever in with the presents. Nothing particularly difficult to wrap and usually she drops off presents early so it's not that she's run out of time. It just feels like she doesn't actually care? I know if we did the same back she'd kick off too so it's doubly irritating!

SawdustandHay · 22/12/2021 15:51

Really good presents like a bicycle or a dolls’ house can be left unwrapped. I think just seeing them at a distance in all their glory has a bigger impact.
What you are describing is just lazy.

mam0918 · 22/12/2021 18:43

I mean a cheap Tesco plastic bag etc... isn't great but I give nearly everything in a gift bag and the concept is basically the same it's just shinier.

In fact, last year I got a bunch of tote bags really cheap and used them instead or gift bags and got loads of compliments about what a great idea it was.

I only wrap things for my kids.
