Best laptop recommendation?

Considering how much time we all spend on laptops I don't mind spending a little more (I think in the past have spent ~£500, but happy to spend ~£1000 for something that is double the quality too..)

Any recommendations?
I use it mostly for working/ microsoft word, pdf files, internet, multitasking etc. I realise all laptops are capable of this! Not a gamer.

We got a Lenovo recently I cant remember which one it might have been a Think Pad? But honestly been the best laptop I've had.

If you don't need a gaming laptop aka a fancy graphics card/GPU then £1000-£1200 (maybe less, 600+?) should get you a really nice laptop. Lenovo, Dell or Asus would be the brands I'd be looking at. I've just been through this process, but sadly for a much more pricey gaming laptop - but things I'd look for would be 512GB plus of SSD disk storage (don't get HDD, but think they're pretty obsolete now) and 16GB plus of RAM, plus free upgrade to win 11 once released. I find these kind of guides really helpful: www.techradar.com/uk/news/mobile-computing/laptops/best-laptops-1304361

this is catching my eye but I couldnt say why... I would really love for someone to advise me what to go for (fsmile)

Some people love the MS Surface laptops, but I've never used one. others love Mac Books, and they always feature highly in these lists, but I can't get on with them. When I was looking for a new laptop about 6m ago, I was looking at a Dell XPS 15, whcih was top of the range then, but possibly overkill as I wfh in a technical job so need to do a lot of streaming over VPN and multitasking (didn't need to buy in the end)

That Asus one certainly ticks all the boxes I am aware of! I don't know that specific CPU (Intel i7) but I think that's still up there, poss one before latest and greatest.

An acer elitebook. I've got one and it's great. Good quality hardware too. Was recommended to me by an IT friend.

Sorry HP elitebook Grin

@Sonex what is the best CPU?

It's somewhat complicated and dependent on what kind of intensive work you're doing on it uk.pcmag.com/processors/132443/how-to-choose-a-laptop-cpu-in-2021

But that one is the middle of the current x86 Intel chips as is an i7 (current ones are i5, i7, i9 I think) (other choice is AMD chips) and it's quad core (like cylinders in a car, option are dual core (bare minimum now), quad core, 6 cores and 8 cores - 8, 6? really only needed for gaming or graphics intensive graphics work I think.

I'd say that one more than fine for internet and word processing and wfh If no intensive requirements (am not a hardware expert though)
