What’s your go-to Christmas movie?

Just that really, do you have a film you watch every Christmas, what is it and why? I’d like to see if there are any others worth checking out.

Personally I always watch Miracle on 34th Street (not the black and white one). I think Richard Attenborough was a super convincing Father Christmas to me as a kid, and I always loved that scene of him signing with the deaf girl.

Now I’ve got an almost-2 year old, we watched Muppets Christmas Carol last year and may do again this year to see if any parts of it will hold his attention. I always liked how seriously Micheal Cane played it! Grin

Excuse me if there’s been another thread like this!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 20/12/2021 19:18

Muppets Christmas carol. Miss piggy steals the movie. Home alone, just one, because the rest are stupid and The gremlins because I'm still trying to figure out why gizmo never turned into a gremlin because it's always after midnight.

Blackmagicqueen · 20/12/2021 19:24

Have several:

It's a wonderful life
A miracle on 34th Street
Home alone 1&2
.Polar express, the Grinch, the snowman (with dcs)

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 20/12/2021 19:25

A Christmas Story (Ralphie) on Christmas Eve
Home Alone
Elf
Arthur Christmas
maybe The Santa Clause

We were meant to go and see A Christmas Carol at the theatre on 23rd but have cancelled, so maybe a version of that this year - maybe it'll be Muppets though I'd quite like to know if there's a different one which might appeal to teens and pre teens (ones willing to watch the above films as a family so quite amenable).

The kids want to do a James Bond films marathon in between Christmas and New year.

NickyOy · 20/12/2021 19:31

Get Santa is my favourite, as well as Home alone 1 and 2. Feel like we have watched a million Christmas films this year

animalcrossingfan2021 · 20/12/2021 19:38

Elf

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 20/12/2021 19:40

Jingle all the way.

Lizlou85 · 20/12/2021 19:42

A muppets Christmas carol, The Grinch, Jim Carey one not the recent remake and Love Actually.

PAFMO · 21/12/2021 06:54

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa

Nativity!

It's always the first Christmas film of the season that we watch and I absolutely love it. I cry every time!

Me too!

Nativity 1 & 2
Muppets
Home Alone 1 & 2
The Worst Christmas of my life (Italian film on Netflix, v funny)
Love Actually

Classics from my childhood Christmasses: Dr Zhivago (the original one) Sound of Music etc.

And any Christmas comedy special going. Especially cheesy classics like the Good Life, Porridge etc.

Anaximedes · 21/12/2021 07:01

Love Actually
The Holiday
whatever Aardman Animations stuff is on

PeonyRose80 · 21/12/2021 07:03

The list is long….with kids

Elf
Home Alone
Arthur Christmas
Deck the Halls
Miracle on 34th St
Film and Cartoon of The Grinch

me and DH always watch

Die Hard
Scrooged
Family Man
It’s a Wonderful Life
Christmas with the Kranks
Family Stone

OrangeCrunch · 21/12/2021 08:37

I can't believe Scrooged hasn't been mentioned more! It's the best!

Also, Muppets Christmas Carol and Home Alone 2.

Just realised I haven't seen ANY of these yet! Xmas Shock

So far we're on Daddy's Home 2, Elf and Arthur Christmas.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 21/12/2021 08:42

Yeah Scrooged is pretty good. In addition to my favourites above I’ll also happily watch any of these:

Trading Places.

I like Miracle on 34th St. The one from the 80s/90s.

A Christmas Carol (the cartoon).

My favourite from my childhood was a cartoon of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. A proper cartoon from the days when it was all hand drawn, made for telly. Loved it.

wavecatcher · 21/12/2021 08:51

Wow that's literally my exact list!
KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 21/12/2021 08:53

Love Actually for me.

Arthur Christmas and Scrooged for all the family.

User2638483 · 21/12/2021 08:54

Loving this thread - especially as we’re having a covid Christmas!

Agree Arthur Christmas is a new fave, and also Klaus ( the post man one).

I need to check out Jingle All The Way and Miracle on 34th street.

The kids like the newest Disney Christmas Carol although it’s a bit sinister in parts.

I am also loving all the terribly cheesy Netflix original Christmas films 😆

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 21/12/2021 08:55

I'm also going to add The Holiday to my favourites list. Not for the film itself, for the cottage and Jude Law. Both of which I put on my list to Father Christmas but I doubt he'll ever deliver. Sigh.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 21/12/2021 08:57

DD11 loves Jingle All The Way, I heard her tell toddler to 'put da cookie down' in a surprisingly good Schwartzenagger voice the other day Grin

ApocalypseNowt · 21/12/2021 09:01

Die Hard, Gremlins, Trading Places & Krampus!

MrsMariaReynolds · 21/12/2021 09:09

My go to is the American classic, A Christmas Story. They usually play a 24 hour marathon of the film on an American tv channel each Christmas---yet it's completely off the radar of most people outside the States.

I always watch that film and Christmas Vacation each year.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 21/12/2021 13:25

Krampus + Bad Santa with a small bottle of JD whilst I wrap presents Grin

Chishnfips · 21/12/2021 13:34

A Christmas Story. I always wanted a bb gun like Ralphie.

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/12/2021 13:49

I have just watched 'A Boy Called Christmas' which may be a new favourite. Usually The Polar Express, The Holiday and Elf

BatshitCrazyWoman · 21/12/2021 13:51

@CurryLover55

Love Actually - this may well be controversial!
Me too. I'm going to watch it tonight, I think.
CandyCaneLane0 · 21/12/2021 16:14

The Santa Clause is my favourite, followed by National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
