Christmas Day Tea

We are usually out visiting which includes tea on Christmas Day but plans have been changed due to illness. We aren’t having a traditional Christmas dinner so no leftovers but will be having a substantial meal so looking for ideas for a light(ish) tea for 2 adults and 2 (fussy) kids that doesn’t involve loads of work. Thanks Xmas Smile

We just usually do some party food that you can bring in the oven or nice crackers with cheeses, chutney, pickled onions etc.

Party food buffet from the supermarket - whatever festive food you like the sound of.

What we normally do for supper on Christmas Day is have a cheeseboard - lots of nice cheeses, crackers, chutney and grapes. You could have warm bread too (buy bakery bread from the supermarket and freeze it, defrost in the microwave and slice). Could also add a pork pie, cold meats etc depending on how much you would like.

We're not eating home for Christmas dinner this year but I'm roasting a turkey and a ham just so we can have the turkey and ham sandwiches and cold cuts with pickles, chutneys, cheese, Crackers and nice bread on Christmas evening and boxing day and, well, until we run out.

Kitchen is closed after lunch in this house and the cook is relaxing.
If you get hungry then there are always cold cuts, breads, crackers, cheeses and cake etc Help yourself and don’t forget to clean up afterwards. Thanks

We normally have pain au chocolat for breakfast

Smoked salmon for elevenses

lunch 2-3pm

rest to digest lunch

Christmas pudding/ other desserts around 6pm

ongoing snacking/ fruit / mince pies etc around 8pm

so it sort of takes all day

if we were just having a Christmas tea, it would probably involve smoked salmon sandwiches (tomato/cucumber/ little salad on the side) mince pies, pannettone, fruit.

DrunkenKoala · 20/12/2021 20:23

I normally have cheese and crackers. DC share a pizza.

I always do smoked salmon for everyone but me, pate, crusty rolls ( the part baked ones you just shove in the oven), lots of cheeses and crackers, chutneys and fruit. Everyone but me enjoys their smoked salmon ( plated, with little triangles of buttered brown bread and a wedge of lemon, and then they just eat whatever they want out of what is on the table. We usually sit chatting for ages and after a while the port and liqueurs will be brought out. When the children get tired they get put to bed and then the evening resumes around the dining table. The children like it too - they love the smoked salmon and can then choose to eat, or not eat, whatever else they want (they usually go straight for the grapes). We have candles, everything sparkles, it is special.
