What ideas do you have that I can get in as last minute gifts to give to unexpected children? There are always some!

E.g. hot chocolate bombs....

I don't think many children would welcome a hot chocolate bombe as a gift- its in the Tampax and deodorant camp.

Tub of heroes

How much do you want to spend?

Herecomethedaffodils · 19/12/2021 15:54

I would say 100% that a tub of heroes is more "in the Tampax and deodorant camp" than a chocolate bomb. Each to their own Grin

thelegohooverer · 19/12/2021 15:59

Selection box
Notebook and pen/colouring book and pencils (depending on age)
Chocolate Santa
Fluffy socks/slipper socks

JisForJellyfish · 19/12/2021 17:06

Selection box definitely!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2021 17:47

Baking kits.

Rtmhwales · 19/12/2021 17:53

We have craft kits mostly, for a couple of age ranges. The most popular being a "make your own dinosaur/unicorn jelly candies" kit that was only a couple £.

A bracelet or beading set is usually good. Coloring books. Cheap soft toys?

ElephantOfRisk · 19/12/2021 18:40

I just one of these for adult DS but looks like it would be suitable for all ages:

Or yes, tubes of chocolate/sweets or selection boxes. Packs of playing cards?

I guess it depends on the ages you'd be expecting. A small bag with a cracker/bag of crisps/one of those little chocolate reindeer type things and a carton or can of drink?

BEE08 · 19/12/2021 19:20

I think it depends on ages, but I would suggest:
Notebook and pen
Colouring book and pencils
Fluffy socks
Selection boxes
Nice mug, hot chocolate section, chocolate stirrer
Board game
Books

What's an 'unexpected' child?

Are you expecting a heavily pregnant family member to pop when carving the turkey?

Surely you know how many children, nieces, nephews, friends etc... you have, how can one suddenly be 'unexpected'?

thaegumathteth · 19/12/2021 19:53

Well @mam0918 for example - dd (11)'a friends have turned up today with gifts for her so I've had to do an emergency present buying operation!

UndertheCedartree · 19/12/2021 19:56

My DD would love a hot chocolate bomb - it's a treat - hardly the same as tampax or deodorant. And same with a tub of heroes!

Fun stationery items, fluffy socks or a chocolate Santa would be very appreciated too.

ParkheadParadise · 19/12/2021 20:00

My dd would also love a hot chocolate bomb.
Selection Box
Bubbles
Pens
Baking kit
temporary tattoos
Colouring-in book

ChristmasRobins · 19/12/2021 20:01

Hot chocolate bomb would be a hit with my kids (16 and 14). Do you need to cover all ages? Moon balls are good for 5 to about 14 and both sexes.

ChristmasRobins · 19/12/2021 20:02

Washi tape, bath bombs.

Lacedwithgrace · 19/12/2021 20:40

Cardboard playhouse for younger kids (I'd say up to 5)
Build your own dino/car/plane kits for older kids (6-10)
For pre-teens - art supplies, chocolate, adult colouring book
For teens- lush products, travel mug
I've got a few gifts in that work for all genders over a few age groups

Christmasisallaround · 19/12/2021 21:12

How can chocolate anything be comparable to deodorant and Tampax?! Hot chocolate gift sounds good to me.
Maybe a few art/stationery Smiggle type things for primary aged spare presents.

AliceMcK · 19/12/2021 21:25

Go to flying tiger if there is one near you, loads of little gifts you can put away for backup. My DD bought all her friends little notebooks from there.

mam0918 · 20/12/2021 09:31

Ah ok.

Home Bargains, B&M, Poundstretcher and even Poundland (although most things arent £1 anymore) are good for this type of thing, it really depends on what type of friends your DD has (girly/tomboy, hobbies, mature/immature etc...) so it's not easy to suggest things.

I know my kids got chocolate bombs for easter and neither was bothered and both are still unused.

Honestly for the last 6 years or so DS (13) always just seems to get a £5 in a card from his friends, seems people prefer to gift money here. (I think it defeats the point when everyone gives each other a £5 as it cancels itself out but it seems to be the done thing lol).

Mammma91 · 20/12/2021 09:33

Selection box and maybe a notepad or colouring book with pens? Its depends on the age I think

Alarmset · 20/12/2021 09:36

Generally things that your own kids received last year and never used

Books

UndertheCedartree · 20/12/2021 10:03

Yes, Flying Tiger or Neon Sheep are great for little craft sets and stationery.

NameChangeCity123 · 20/12/2021 10:14

If you live near a Morrisons they had loads of gifts down to half price yesterday. They had a little make your own 'the snowman' set with dough and tools etc for £3 which might be handy to tuck away just in case?

FearlessSwiftie · 20/12/2021 10:28
