Any ideas for a 7 year old girl?

I'm buying a gift for my DIL's niece - I won't buy a book as she speaks another language and I won't buy clothes as I'm not sure of her size. What sort of thing would your 7 year old girl like? Cost around £30 or so.

My 7 year old would say a nice Lego Friends set (you should get a medium sized one for £30). Something with lots of bits to open? (If you can stomach Lol dolls - the Lol pets are more tolerable) or something crafty? Crayola do a light up drawing board as a gift that she loved. Good luck - hopefully finished my buying now if the twitch doesn't hit Wink

Skateboard! Be bold!

HollowTalk · 16/12/2021 11:46

Thanks very much! I've now been told no toys (they live in a very small apartment in NY) and I should get age 8 clothes - scarf, tights, hat, something like that. What sort of thing does your daughter like to wear? It's amazing how fast you forget once your child becomes an adult!

They will have to carry the present back home so something flat or that can be worn would be easiest. It's hard as I haven't met her so don't know what she'd like.

American kids clothing comes up large, so might be safer to consider 8-9 (my 6 year old is in 8-9 so this is not out of the realm of possibility). She likes leggings in cool patterns, sparkly tights, t-shirts that make her laugh or have sequins on. Next are good for t-shirts, Boden, White Stuff, Joules etc for more expensive, v. 'British' branded clothing...?

Or a journal with a lock and some fabulous pens?

Lockdownbear · 16/12/2021 11:57

I'd split your budget buy a t-shirt or gloves and give the girl some money to choose something herself

PurpleMustards · 16/12/2021 11:57

My dd is 7 and has changed enormously in her tastes this year, especially when it comes to clothes. She doesn't like anything cute, sparkly, pink any more (which was her whole thing for years!) and is more in to what she deems 'cool' clothes. We do well out of Zara. She likes the neutral leggings, oversized sweaters etc. I got her a nice denim jacket recently which she likes too.

Can you find out any more info about what she prefers to wear? From my experience, they can be very opinionated about what they like at this age. My dd won't even consider trying on anything I buy which she doesn't like the look of!

Maybe something "local" to where you're from or distinctly British (assuming you're in the UK)? It was always cool to have things that were obviously from abroad when we were kids, I remember lusting after French notebooks with graph paper in them for years!! I'm in Scotland so have bought soft toy Highland Cows and "tourist" t-shirts for kids overseas and my American friend's kids love a football strip from over here.

Lovemusic33 · 16/12/2021 12:19

Mini Boden have a sale I think, they usually do nice hats and scarfs and maybe a top? Or Next do nice kids clothes.

Thanks very much for all your ideas. @PurpleMustards I agree with how quickly they change. It looks like the meet up won't take place now (it was due to be in Paris - I know, I know, I wasn't going to be there) so I'll take my time now and choose something I can post.

Thanks again.

DD7 loves the silver name necklace she recently received, adores Bear Paw or similar sheepskin boots, would adore a voucher or cash to be frittered on crap, is Bubble Tea crazy (kits are well under £30).
Lol Dolls are 'over' and any Lego has to be Harry Potter or non 'girly' stuff.

evilharpy · 16/12/2021 18:21

My 7yo would love absolutely anything leopard/animal print, glittery, sequinned, furry, or neon. She loves Tikiboo leggings. Also hairclips (again leopard/animal print, glittery, neon blah blah) from the likes of Claire's Accessories are a favourite.

She's not a fan of any characters on things.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 16/12/2021 21:06

My daughter is slightly older at 9, but her favourite things to wear are leggings, crop tops and sometimes a tutu! She has a fur coat she adores.

She likes jewellery, anything glittery, sparkly. She's like a magpie!

She likes notebooks, pens. Or beads to make jewellery herself.

Board games are her absolute favourite past time though, dobble, pass the pigs, exploding kittens, p is for pizza, boggle, uno, top trumps, OK play are all small enough to carry, fit in a bag or post.
