Is there anywhere that I can give away unwanted smellies gift sets to?

My teen DS always gets a good few sets of smellies for Christmas from relatives, along the lines of Lynx etc. We still have some in the cupboard from last year.
He has sensitive skin/slight exzema so tends to stick with toiletries that won’t irritate his skin.
I know box sets aren’t the most exciting gift so I wouldn’t want to re-gift them, but are there any charities that might take them for people in need?
I wouldn’t give the old ones from last year, just the inevitable new ones from this year.
Incase you were wondering have tried telling people that he doesn’t really use them but it has fallen on deaf ears. They generally give them to him to accompany a voucher. I think they just like him to have “something to open” but he’d be pretty content with just the vouchers or cash!

You could put them with the food bank collections in supermarkets.

Sprogonthetyne · 15/12/2021 22:37

Mine always go to school raffle or summer fate. Or if you have any that are still in date then you could look for local charities that collect gifts for children who might otherwise not get much/ anything. People tend to donate with cute younger children in mind, so they always struggle for stuff for teens.

My local food bank would take them this time of year. Inspired by an Australian charity called "Share the dignity" I've taught my teen daughter to make up gift bags of sanitary packs for teen girls - a nice shower gel, day & night pads, ibuprofen and a bar of chocolate for Christmas donation. I bet someone would be glad to be able to give their son something like what you've got to give away if they are needing to use a food bank and can't afford a gift.

Ragwort · 15/12/2021 22:40

I volunteer at a Food Bank & we would give them out to clients.

Or charity shop?

CoolShoeshine · 16/12/2021 07:08

Thank you so much everyone- I’ll try the supermarket collection points near me first to see if they’ll take them

School tombola (judging by every school tombola I've ever seen).

lonsdaleshorts · 16/12/2021 07:13

Definitely a food bank. Ours would take them. Or do you have a local radio station doing a cash for kids gift collection? Possibly there too.

Ponoka7 · 16/12/2021 07:16

Charity shops, if they are boxed, any collection points for disadvantaged groups. They have a shelf life of around three years, so last year's is ok to give as well.

Bourbanbiscuit · 16/12/2021 07:18

Residential homes for elderly have a tombola/raffle I'm sure they would be grateful

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/12/2021 07:47

Food bank or Google homeless charity where ever you are and call them.

Mollymalone123 · 16/12/2021 07:51

YMCA here are doing hampers and asked for toiletries and smelliest.not sure if it’s nationwide-also food bank charity shops

I sympathise. The year of the 14 boxes of Boots Lynx type gift sets. He would rather have had the money. He was so despondent by the end that some remains unopened.

Boots will take them back and exchange or offer a gift card but they go down in price on Boxing Day

My DD took them to school and gave them to the welfare officer- they have a toiletries/sanitary towel box that any students can access if they cant afford them or parents won't buy them

Spread the crap gift?
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 07:57

One of our food banks does Christmas bags for children in care. Teenage children tend to be under-represented when people donate them, certainly in our area, as they focus on younger children. Might be a plan, depending on how much time you have to check. Maybe they have a FB page you can message?

Fallagain · 16/12/2021 07:58

Most teenage boys love lynx.
Food bank or hygiene bank.

Joystir59 · 16/12/2021 08:01

Local care home where they can give them to residents or use them in raffles to raise funds

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 08:15

I don't know about it being a crap gift PP Hmm. They obs sell enough of them for them to be popular. I quite like the smell of Africa on people as I go past. Good idea about care homes. Some residents have no one to provide toiletries, and they don't seem to be covered by the Home. When we used to take shampoo etc in for MIL it was always used very quickly, so we suspected it was being used on other residents. Not begrudging it, but.

They really dont love Lynx They use Lynx as a necessity

I use Tampax- I dont love it. Doesnt make it a suitable Christmas gift.

justasking111 · 16/12/2021 09:20

I give them to our local women's refuge

CookSproutsInSoySauce · 16/12/2021 10:01

Food bank?
Toiletry sets are a standard gift each here year. We can only afford the super cheap tesco own soap, shampoo etc year round so these are a luxury! Everyone gets their own set of fancy toiletries.
We've not used foodbank in years but I'm sure they'd be appreciated there!

Legoisthebest · 16/12/2021 10:07

It's probably too late for this year but why on earth have you not TOLD the gift givers that he can't use these because of his skin. Just TELL them.

Sprogonthetyne · 16/12/2021 10:10

Legoisthebest
It literally says in the op, they have tried

"Incase you were wondering have tried telling people that he doesn’t really use them but it has fallen on deaf ears"

Legoisthebest · 16/12/2021 10:17

Apologies I missed that Sprog. Although saying "he doesn't really use them" is vague. Saying "he CANNOT use X brand because it causes his skin condition to flair up" is better.

Danikm151 · 16/12/2021 10:18

Completely understand, I get given smellies but can't use them. We used to donate them as raffle prizes or regift.
Homeless shelters will take them just google a local one.
