Naice mince pies without alcohol

I've got a Muslim friend who is a foodie and loves mince pies but can't have the nice ones with alcohol in obviously as against her religion to consume alcohol.

2 questions:-

1. is the alcohol so absorbed it technically doesn't count?
2. Are there any really nice mince pies without alcohol in?

I don't like alcohol in things. My favourite mince pies of all are the Sainsbury bakery mince pies. They are delicious.

I’m afraid any alcohol in them absolutely counts. Apparently the Walkers Shortbread ones are a good booze free option, but I prefer mine massively boozy so can’t comment personally 😁

Any alcohol in the mincemeat evaporates during the baking of the pies, so she would not be consuming any. I doubt there is very much in commercially produced mincemeat anyway, as it is probably heated during the jar filling process. There may be a residual flavour of brandy but no alcohol.

You can make your own mincemeat.

Any added would count I'm afraid, even if it does evaporate off!

I didn't think mainstream supermarket mince pies had any alcohol in them. My kids scoff loads of them.

If there is any evaporated or not it's a no go for a strict Muslim.

If you can make them yourself, Robertsons mincemeat is alcohol free (we could buy it in Saudi).

Yes, alcohol in mincemeat counts as haram, and wouldn't be consumed.

Sorry, just realised that last sentence is confusing - mincemeat made with alcohol at any point in the process wouldn't be eaten by an observant Muslim. It would be considered haram, even if no alcohol remained.

It's not true that 100% of the alcohol content evaporates during cooking - in any dish about 30% is likely to remain. So no, they won't be suitable for observant Muslims.

Make or buy ecclefechan tarts instead. Much more delicious anyway.
