Not originally from the UK so I'm never sure - should presents in the stockings be wrapped as well, or not? Also, do you put in christmassy chocolates (like chocolate santas) or any kind of chocolates (say pack of quality street)?
Thank you x

Wrapped here. And there's sweets/chocolate.

MrsBungle · 14/12/2021 12:06

I don’t wrap and I do put chocolates in - this year they have chocolate coins, a Santa and a lindt teddy

Auntieobem · 14/12/2021 12:07

Not wrapped here, and chocolate of some sort is non negotiable!

DoucheCanoe · 14/12/2021 12:08

Everyone does it differently but I mix it up a bit.

Things that are easily wrapped are done in leftover scraps of random wrapping paper, some things are in little fabric drawstring bags and others are just chucked in!

It's tradition to put chocolate coins and a naff pair of Christmas socks in ours Xmas Grin

BonnesVacances · 14/12/2021 12:09

Wrapped here as the fun for my DC is unwrapping the presents. Plus chocolates and sweets.

boomboom1234 · 14/12/2021 12:09

I wrap about half of the things but not all and I have a Lindt chocolate santa, a tube of smarties, a few sweeties and a net of chocolate coins to put in mine.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 14/12/2021 12:13

Stocking requirements / etiquette in my household has always been

  • Tangerine always goes in the toe (apparently this is a very common tradition that dates back to Victorian times or longer (??) that was meant to ensure even the poorest children received something for Christmas.
  • Gold coins / chocolate balls kind of scattered throughout.
  • Some gifts wrapped like a box with earrings (or something a bit more special) in it etc
  • Most things unwrapped - things that are usually too tricky to wrap like fancy pens with reindeer on them, etc.
  • Always something exciting peaking out of the top of the stocking to show its full and that Santa has been. This is usually a small stuffed toy (this year it's JellyCat Christmas ones). Previously I've done other stuffed toys, foil wrapped chocolate Santas, fluffy Christmas socks draped over the side of the stocking, and when is children were older my mum used to put magazines in for us, so I'll probably do something similar for mine when the time comes.
whereshalligo · 14/12/2021 12:15

Don't wrap stocking bits and yes to chocolate and sweets although not loads. Just some coins and a tube of fruit pastilles. Also a pot noodle !

CinnamonStar · 14/12/2021 12:19

I always wrap everything apart from loose chocolates (ones in wrappers, or that could get messy!)

I don't put in hollow chocolate figures, because they might get crushed (stocking is at the end of the bed by dc's feet, and could get rolled on or kicked onto the floor in the night.)

I usually put in something more robust like a toblerone or chocolate orange (plus favourite sweets), and then scatter in some loose chocolate coins or Lindt balls.

Salamander91 · 14/12/2021 12:29

We don't wrap. I have enough to do!

It's all only little £1/2 bits though

parietal · 14/12/2021 12:30

I wrap. I include lots of chocolate and cheap stuff from TheWorks etc. just little fun things.

IgneousRock · 14/12/2021 12:30

I don't wrap stocking presents. Yes definitely to choc Santa in stocking.

Salamander91 · 14/12/2021 12:31

I bought chocolate santas this year but any sweets or chocolate would do. We used to get a handful out of the quality street tin when I was a kid Grin

MaryDoll84 · 14/12/2021 12:35

I wrap some bits but not the boring stuff like body spray. With regards to sweets/chocolate, I just put in the stuff I know my kids like best. Giant toblerones are featuring this year(more for me really)😁

TheFairPrincess · 14/12/2021 12:40

I'm wrapping stocking stuff, but am also considering doing some stuff with just bows etc, like stickers or pens.

I put a mix of:

  • Toys: any proper toys they're receiving that fit, I don't buy any toys designed to be stocking fillers
  • Christmas sweets: chocolates, sugar mice, lollipop and candycane
  • Character/cute bubble bath and lush bath bomb
  • Craft bits: pencil or pen, mini notebook, stickers, jar of beads or something
  • possibly some gloves, socks or pants. None this year
OhFGSWhenDoesItStop · 14/12/2021 12:47

I wrap the present in the stocking but not the bits unless they're easy to wrap, definitely not the chocolate, mandarin or nuts.

Kittykatmacbill · 14/12/2021 12:48

Clementine in the toe.
Presents are wrapped.
Red paper for one child and green for the other.
Santa always needs to get very equal presents to stop fights.
Yes, to chocolate coins but only as much as they can sensibly have.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 14/12/2021 12:57

No to wrapping. Both dc1 and dh struggle with the feel of most wrapping papers.
Real orange and chocolate orange, pomegranate and some haribo type sweets.

Largethighsbadeyes · 14/12/2021 12:59

All wrapped but we don't really put sweets/chocolate in the stocking, just cheaper "real" (for want of a better word) presents like books, games, clothes etc

Christmas1988 · 14/12/2021 13:02

I don’t wrap stocking gifts, any chocolate will do, I usual buy those tubes of chocolate like Munchies or after eight cubes. Chocolate coins are a must. Kids will be happy with anything!

MagpiePi · 14/12/2021 13:18

DSs are grown up and gone now, but I never used to wrap things in their stockings.
Always a tangerine in the toe, some chocolate coins or other christmassy chocolates, a colouring book or puzzle book (in the hope that they'd sit quietly and amuse themselves with it while I had a lie in Grin), or a comic or magazine as they got older, some daft small toys like ones you wind up or racing cars, and a sugar pig or sugar mice or something.
I made a couple of stockings out of felt that weren't too big, so it reduced the need to spend loads on stuff to go in it.

SingToTheSleigh · 14/12/2021 13:25

I wrap loosely with tissue paper (colour coded by child) and put one bit of tape on. Other than chocolate coin type things which go in loose

Jumpingintochristmas · 14/12/2021 13:52

I wrap about 75% and they always included chocolate coins and the persons favourite sweets (from artisan chocolates to fererro rochers!).

StrangerThanSpring · 14/12/2021 14:03

I don't wrap either.

I put in a mixture of sweets, small toys, puzzle book, etc.

GotToGoBye · 14/12/2021 14:16

Sweets, a candy cane, a tangerine and gold chocolate coins - not wrapped
2 little presents - wrapped
