Christmas Desserts?

StarryNightSparkles · 13/12/2021 15:30

In our house for ever and a day we always have chocolate cake as a dessert. So for Christmas this year I thought that I would spice things up and step outside the box ( the only reason we eat chocolate cake all the time is because dh and dc are so fussy and ask for it, now they are teasing me about the inevitable chocolate cake 🤷‍♀️)

What lovely desserts are you having this Christmas?

I will also buy the chocolate cake as no doubt that they will moan we don't have one 🤦‍♀️🤯

You could make the chocolate cake in a christmas tree mould?

That's a great idea. We could decorate it with little Christmas decorations and it would keep the DC busy for an afternoon.

Always, always Christmas pudding. Couldn't do Christmas without it.
My BIL tends to make something for the Christmas pudding haters - usually a yule log.
We have a trifle too later - possibly for tea, but more realistically on Boxing day as everyone is too full!

I love biscuits and cheese usually have after dessert/coffee with a nice glass of wine. I could look up a trifle recipe and see how you make one.

The choice is usually Christmas pudding or steamed chocolate pudding or trifle.

You could go with
cheesecake lots of flavours to choose from
Lemon meringue pie
Pavlova
Eton mess

StarryNightSparkles · 13/12/2021 16:14

@irregularegular that seals the deal will pop a Christmas pudding in my Tesco order. Am not sure what a yule log is to be honest will have a Google. That's a lovely tradition of your bil making a dessert.

Yule log is pretty much just a gooey chocolate cake in the shape of a log!!

Hairyfriend · 13/12/2021 16:17
  • Pavlova
  • Tiramisu
  • Festive trifle
  • Sticky toffee pudding
  • Fruit salad (made with lots of tropical fruit)
woodhill · 13/12/2021 16:18

Swiss roll with Black Forest filling- haven't made before

Tiramasau

Pavlova

MOmiMa · 13/12/2021 16:22

Made this for the last 5years. Always well received. You can change/omit ingredients to suit your taste- I don't like sugared citrus peel, so I never put it in, and since DC, I do not lace it with vin santo, but make my own non-alc syrup. You can make it well in advance, keep it in the freezer and decorate just before serving.

Christmas pudding
Yule log
Toffee and pecan roulade
Toying with the idea of binning off the Yule log and doing a lemon tart instead.

itwasntaparty · 13/12/2021 16:30

Christmas pudding, cheese and cheesecake or profiteroles for the kids.

katieg03 · 13/12/2021 16:32

Roulade input house Aldi and Tesco finest 😋

NoShitHemlock · 13/12/2021 16:33

Another one who has Christmas Pudding, but we have ours with custard (controversial I know!)
Also trifle, but tbh it doesn't get a look in on Christmas Day as by that stage I have already eaten my weight in stuffing!

@woodhill - any chance I can come to yours Christmas Day? I am willing to forego my massive helping of stuffing for your Black Forest Swiss Roll Wink

AliceMcK · 13/12/2021 16:34

Last year we did mini pavlovas smashed up with a selection of fruits, sauces & creams. I saw this and wanted to replicate it.

This year I’ve got a selection of small single serve Christmas deserts (Aldi Christmas cracker, millionaires caramel cake…) that DH and I will pick at and DCs can try (they arnt adventurous) and was just going to do ice cream sundaes with lots of Christmas themed sprinkles for the DCs.

We arnt going traditional this year, we are doing tapas, everything including deserts will be going on the table at once and we will be playing games while picking at the food.

Lol I'll post a picture. Not sure if it will turn out right but it should be quite light

Not keen on Christmas pudding

AdaColeman · 13/12/2021 16:40

Yule log
Chocolate mousse
Spanish almond tart
Dundee cake
More chocolate mousse

lurkingfromhome · 13/12/2021 16:44

I make everyone's favourite dessert for Christmas so that we can pick at them over a few days. I'm doing:

Spiced plum cheesecake
Ginger and pear trifle
Chocolate and caramel tart

Anoooshka · 13/12/2021 16:51

Mince pies, but I mix the mincemeat with grated apples to lighten it up.

And tiramisu. I don't do well with heavy foods and DH is American so he doesn't care about eating traditional British foods at Christmas.

NoShitHemlock · 13/12/2021 16:52

@woodhill I may have to lick the monitor screen Grin
