DD has ages off for Christmas - over 3 weeks. She finished at noon last Friday (14th) and isn't back until Tuesday 8th January. I am on sick leave from work until mid January at least.

Have tried to fill this week up as muchas possible as she is over excited and giddy, so staying home is more stressful than being out and about. So we are meeting up with friends, having soft play, meeting grandparents for lunch, and a bit of last minute shopping.

We will be hectic Christmas/New Year week with family/friends visiting, as well as playing with new toys.

Not sure how to fill the final week off school though.

ah hula - one of the disadvantages of private education - too much holiday

Hulababy · 18/12/2007 17:30

Tell me about it! I am actually now grateful for having had an operation leading to this sick leave. Otherwise I'd have to find childcare options and be using up hliday to cover it too!

pantomime?

or other children's theatre?

nature walks in woods, feeding birds, usual sort of stuff you probably do anyway.

returning unsuitable presents to the shops

when I was at private secondary, I used to get a whole month off at christmas and easter

claricebeansmumhasnomincepies · 18/12/2007 17:32

I am so excited about these holidays...
we have mince pies to make
and presents to wrap
and we are going skating
and we have friends over for lunch
and we will go to the cinema
and for long bike rides in the park

Hulababy · 18/12/2007 17:37

Ooh, that's a thought. Might take DD ice skating, bet she'd like that

We normally use it as an opportunity to visit places otherwise overcrowded in school holidays as often find state shcools have already gone back a few dyas before (not sure if that is the case in January though since the term is so short anyway with early Easter). Sometimes meet friends we only see occasionally at a farm park , midway from our homes for example, with a large soft play otherwise chaotic when all the schools are off. Or go to the cinema and do lunch.

Hulababy · 18/12/2007 17:43

Worst bit is that a fair few of DD's friends are not yet on holiday and go back before her, which is a shame.

I took DD to an ourdoor ice rink, we had a really good time, do you have one near you?

Apart from that probably pantomime, cinema (to see enchanted I think) and the christmas carnival.

Have you taken your DD to see santa yet? That could pass a day?

No outside rink but have a big indor rink nearby - might do that in the week after New Year. will be less busy once most of the other schools have gone back.
