We are limited this year, I have £60 but I don't want to spend it all on one item. I would love to be able to wrap a few if possible. Please throw your ideas at me :)

@Ginius thank you for the Journal 29 tip

Looks perfect. DH adores 'surprises'

KeyboardWorriers · 12/12/2021 22:50

DH and I don't spend a lot because we don't really like spending on lots of "stuff"

He has a book he will love (second hand , from World of Books online); a t shirt (bought in a sale). And then a Lego model that cost £40. Total is about £60 Smile

An RNLI hoodie, a cheap MP3 player for walking the dog, David Jason autobiography, Chocolate Orange, and I’ve saved my Clubcard points to get him a bottle of single malt - I do this every year.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/12/2021 07:10

We only do token presents because we just buy for ourselves throughout the year and both want to research and choose specific hobby items and look for deals, so 'proper' presents don't work for us.

So far I've got DP a mug I saw and knew he'd like, some of his favourite chocolate, some Christmas nuts and some beer. His favourite is a bit niche (German black lager) so it can be a bit hard to track down. I might buy him the new Mel Brooks autobiography as he's a big fan, but he only reads on kindle, so I'd have to buy it and send it to his kindle, rather than the physical book.

Some nice loungewear type things, Armani aftershave, favourite chocolates/sweets, paw paw balm, hoodie, water bottle.

Roominmyhouse - it's the fact there's no 'main' gift really... 5 things might sound like a lot but for example 10 x Poundland gifts are not impressive compared to 1 big gift if you see what I mean.

The trainers aren't cheap but they are standard as I get him them every year, it's become a tradition so not exciting.

The others a literally just little 'token' gifts.

If the concert tickets were included it would feel bigger but they were given early and already used and it reiterates why I don't give gifts early because now even though I spent a decent amount it feels like just a few odd token gifts.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 13/12/2021 11:53

A map from Etsy he wanted.
A bottle of Sancerre
Viz annual
Cool water aftershave.

IncompleteSenten · 13/12/2021 11:57

I got mine a big box of assorted hot or spicy sauces and a whiskey tasting set with several little bottles with different single malt whiskeys in it. I don't think quantity is the most important thing. Better imo to get one or two things you know he'll love than to have a pile of ok things just so he has more to unwrap.

If he likes coffee, I think a Coffee dripper would be a nice gift
I have a stainless steel one which saves buying paper filters
Lots available for approx £10 maybe with a bag of ground coffee Asda extra special is good and inexpensive

I'm on such a tight budget this year. We're hosting 14 for Christmas and I'm pregnant and we just moved house.

It's my DH's birthday a few days before Christmas which makes things even tighter.

I am so so pleased with what I've managed to bag him for less than £200 (for both Christmas and birthday)

Got him a new "man bag" (yep, he's one of those) which is only bloody Osprey!!!! It was reduced from £200 to £55 and I got another 10% for being a new customer!

I got him a book on ultimate pizza making (from the kids)

I got him an ice cream maker (he's wanted one for ages) which was half price because no one is making icecream in winter and then I used a relative's 25% John Lewis discount to get it down even lower and it was £90

Somewhat embarrassingly, I bought him a posh Christmas shirt that DHL lost. I complained to the company last month and they refunded it. It was £35. This morning I opened the door and it was propped up against the milk. So I guess DHL found it. I've kept it, even though I had a refund. 😳 I know this is really really naughty.

I've also got him some lovely stocking fillers, and spent less than a tenner on the whole lot.

I just have to figure out what I'm giving him for his birthday and what I'm giving him for Christmas now. But I feel really really pleased with how cheap I've managed to do this all for. (Not so proud of stealing a shirt)

CookSproutsInSoySauce · 13/12/2021 15:31

A toiletries set. (This is a luxury we always get at Christmas, usually it's cheap own brand stuff!).
A jumper from charity shop.
A DVD he wanted.

Stocking filled with edible treats, socks and a nicer bar of soap.
