pantoinghousewife · 19/12/2007 20:16

Anything by Cliff and merry xmas (war is over) by lennon. Farking hate it.
Although I do admit to liking White Christmas and Stop the Cavalry.

CatIsSleepy · 19/12/2007 20:17

how can radio 1 play a song for years and years then suddenly decide they don't like the word 'faggot'? tis bizarre

i quite like greg lake too
definitely not the worst christmas offender

SpacecadetLovesChristmas · 19/12/2007 20:19

Mistletoe and Wine..bleedin awful..however it was actually written by my sons friends dad, who regularly writes for TV, he wrote the song for the west end production of The little match girl in the 80's, it was intended as a dark song which they all stood around and sang as she lay dying...He was stunned when cliff's producers contacted him asking if Cliff could sing the song..but agreed..He hates it himself now..but its brought him in a lot of royalties

Myrrhcy · 19/12/2007 20:19

So here it is
Merry Christmas
Everybody's having fun
Look to the future
It's only just beguuyuun

Hate hate hate it

Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday

Hate it hate it

Vulgar · 19/12/2007 20:21

Mistletoe and Wine- my bloody dh gets in on the brain every Christmas and goes round singing it. i may have to murder him.

Interesting story about the song Space cadet.

Shit song though.

and I love the Greg Lake one.

stripeymama · 19/12/2007 20:23

All of them

SantasLittleToiletFlusher · 19/12/2007 20:23

Another vote for bleedin' mistletoe and wine.

I can't help but childishly sing (in order to entertain myself and relieve the tediousness of the song):
"Christmas Time, Misteltoe and wine, children singing christian rhyme, with logs in their knickers and gifts on the tree blah blah blah....."

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 19/12/2007 20:23

i like wish it could be christmas everday lol

pinetreedog · 19/12/2007 20:27

Myrrhcy · 19/12/2007 20:57

I don't believe you pinetreedog

(re slade)

pinetreedog · 19/12/2007 20:58

yes, for a rousing song you can do a lot worse than slade

GrimmaTheNome · 19/12/2007 20:59

oh yeah 'Christian children singing Christian rhyme'

There is no such thing as a 'christian child' any more than theres a child who's a member of the postal workers union. [acknowledgements to Marcus Brigstock].

puke puke omg its cliff double puke

pinetreedog · 19/12/2007 21:00

The only 'commercial' xmas song I've ever really liked was the Mel Smith and - who was it, Kim Wilde? Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. Neither pukily sweet nor world-weary cynical.
