What could I make as an alternative to Christmas pud?

My mum is cooking Christmas dinner but I have offered to make an extra dessert as an alternative or addition to Christmas pudding. I'd like something reasonably easy. DP is suggesting tiramisu, I was wondering lemon syllabub. Any good ideas?

hmm tiramisu

or one of those Chocolate Log things?

foxinsocks · 17/12/2007 20:34

I meant mmm as in yummy tiramisu!

CarmenerryChristmas · 17/12/2007 20:35

I think that tiramisu is a good idea. I am going to make a lemon meringue trifle.

sticky toffee pudding or bannoffee pie?

Weegle · 17/12/2007 20:46

Ice cream bomb - looks like xmas pudding style

chocolateshoes · 17/12/2007 21:14

ice cream bomb sounds scarily difficult. Would love to do banoffi but my Mum makes the best one in the world so I couldn't possibly do that!

I'd go for something light and fruity. Pears poached in mulled wine perhaps? Served with the legendary lemon drizzle cake?

Lubyloo · 17/12/2007 21:21

How about lemon posset? Ridiculously simple, refreshing and can be prepared in advance.

Thanks everyone! sorry lulu but I really hate trifle. Funnily enough Lubyloo I have a recipe for lemon posset pinned to my notice board as I did wonder about making it! So you think I should go for it?

We are having run-flamed bananas with cinnamon ice-cream. Still christmassy flavours, you still get to set fire to something, but it's much lighter.

mylittlepudding · 18/12/2007 19:39

Nigella's lightly spiced Christmas cake. (Domestic Goddess)

Actually it's not called that, it's got snowy icing on - but I skipped that and went for something more subtle, or plain with custard. Mmmm.

Get a copy of the current Sainsbury's mag there's some really nice 'grown up' receipies in there, champagne jelly, limoncello souffle (touted as 'easy') and a few others that I can't remember now, all sounded very nice tho.....

snicebutdidyoukeepthereceipt · 18/12/2007 21:44

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 18/12/2007 21:48
