Christmas cake help!

I'm planning to make a Christmas cake for the first time this year, but I'm overwhelmed by the huge variety of different recipes online and in my own cookery books.

Can anyone help with a recipe suggestion that is simple but tastes traditional?

I have mixed fruit, flour, butter, marzipan, eggs, icing sugar, ground almonds, various spices like mixed spice and cinnamon, jam to stick the marzipan to the cake. That should be all I need, right?

I don't want to be pouring alcohol into it - but I thought I could soak the fruit beforehand.
In tea? In alcohol? I have some peach liqueur (18 proof) might that be nice? Do I soak overnight?

I use Mary Berry's recipe www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/classic_christmas_cake_04076

You can sub tea for the brandy if you don't want booze. I soak the fruit in alcohol but don't generally feed the cake afterwards as I don't like too strong a boozy taste.

Peach liqueur will be fine.

Thank you, that recipe looks do-able!

I've made Delia Smith's traditional Christmas cake. At this stage you'll need to feed it frequently or look for a last minute Christmas cake recipe.

I've made the Nigel Slater one before:

Don't worry about having all the different types of fruits mentioned - just the right weight overall. I wouldn't put figs in it unless you really love me them.

This recipe doesn't soak the fruit, but you could soak them the night before if you wanted.

Tea would be lovely as an alternative to alcohol. Orange juice is also nice.
