Gift for 7 year old and 9 year old girls - are these too young?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got two presents left to buy and for various reasons I am now switching to buying phtsical gifts this year.

They are 7 and 9 (sisters), the elder has some additional needs. She is particularly ‘girly’ and enjoys ‘taking care of her tots/dolls’ and nurturing.

7 year old is harder to read, she likes fantasy and magical stuff, is very very clever.

They’ve gone through some significant trauma and I don’t know them very well yet so a bit stuck.

My budget is £40-£50per child and I try to buy only one item. Toys only (for those various reason that’s not right for me to disclose).

I was thinking of the v-tech secret diary and the treasure chest - are these suitable?

Any help appreciated!

Well I have an 8.5 year old and she would LOVE the chest, I'd never heard of it so just looked it up. I'd get one if I hadn't already overbought. My dd has ADHD though so typically 20% off a neurodiverse child's age is more accurate. Don't be put off, you probably know them better. If they are prone to fighting I'd be tempted to get the same gift for both of them though?

Playmobil Mermaid sets are a good call actually. There is one with baby mermaids and a mermaid carriage, a large marble run, a light up shell etc you could get them one set each and one to share.

Or what about Barbie? A Skipper and baby set for eldest, and a more fantasy based like mermaid for younger? I do think your original idea should still be a contender though.

Thanks everyone, some great ideas! I do think the diary is still a potential for the older girl - despite her age she is very young in her ways.

A few things won’t suit but I’ve been a little bit cryptic due to the fact that the traumatic things I mentioned are still at the tail end (thank god!) and I don’t want to say anything outing.

I’ve got a lot of researching to do based off these ideas!!

My DD is 7 & her favourite things to play with are
Lego Friends
Our Generation or Designafriend dolls
Barbie
Sylvanian Families
Anything crafty - usborne magic painting books have gone down well recently, as has a make your own mermaid sewing kit with child friendly needle (Sainsburys)

One of the best presents I ever got was a large novelty pencil case filled with novelty pens, pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, postits, paperclips, mini stapler. You could pair that with a nice diary or notebook.
