Crochet starter kit

Is there such a thing for an adult rather than the kiddie-style starter kits?
Looking for a nice grown -up one for someone who wants to learn seriously.

I would buy an Attic 24 kit from Woolwarehouse and an amour crochet hook or a crochet hook set to go with it with a yarn needle.

Attic 24 is a crochet blog run by a lady called Lucy, lots of people have learnt to crochet using it as her patterns have lots of pictures to make it easier. I used that and a mixture of youtube videos. For lots of her blankets you only need to know how to do a chain and a treble crochet so you can make them even as a beginner.

The Attic 24 kits come with the yarn presented in a large organza bag, sometimes with a pattern sometimes without. You obviously don't have to use the pattern it comes with but people like the colour coordination that Lucy does so buy the prepacked kits.

I agree with the above. You really can’t go wrong with attic24. I also agree with buying a really good hook like a tulip etimo or a clover amour, a good hook makes all the difference.

What is your budget? Crochet society do an Essentials Box for £64.99, which has yarn, crochet hooks, crochet guide etc., and some patterns to make things. There are items sold separately on that site as well.

You could always put something together yourself, i.e crochet book, crochet hooks (4mm & 6 mm) are good sizes to start with, stitch markers, yarn etc.

I have started to learn crochet this year, and I found that most beginner kits were aimed at children.

I found the best way to learn was online. Much much easier than a real person showing you, or from a book.

Bella Coco is good. It just depends who you click with really.

Stylecraft DK & a number 4 hook (I like amour hooks) is all she needs IMO. If you want to make it more gifty, order from Wool Warehouse & it'll come in an organza bag, add some stitch markers & tape measure.

I think the Attic 24 kits are great, but I think they're too daunting for a beginner. Granny squares are a good way to start, a couple of balls of Stylecraft DK, nice hook, less pressure.
