DM is impossible to buy for. But I've just thought that she's gotten more into baking recently (cupcakes and similar). Can anyone recommend anything nice that's related? I'd love to get her something lovely because she does so much to support us with my DD (as does my DF but I've not even thought of a genre of present he'd be interested in yet!)

Budget around £30-50 if possible (or I'd book her on a cake decorating course!)

Cake forks. (only because I want some).

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 05/12/2021 08:44

I was going to say cake forks too and/or a tiered cake stand. Not the sort of things you'd usually buy for yourself. Or a baking book - I've a couple of the the Great British Bake Off books & they are great.

I got a fancy cake slice last year like this one

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/wrendale-designs-duck-cake-slice-multi/p5089330?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Bakedin gift subscription? Good to try out new recipes and techniques if she's just got into baking.

frazzledasarock · 05/12/2021 09:33

I got SIL
Nordic Ware fancy Bundt tin
Cake slice
Cake forks
Wilton cake decorating turntable

The forks and slice were the same brand as the rest of her cutlery so everything matches.

Personalised apron or cake tins?

KatieKat88 · 05/12/2021 09:45

Some lovely ideas, thank you! I think things like cake forks/slices/stands would be well received but probably not used very frequently. A cake tin would be good if anyone has any links to any particularly beautiful ones? I'm also tempted by a gift subscription to Baked In so thank you for that idea!

Well worth a look round Lakeland. They have some gorgeous ideas there.Maybe a voucher for say £25.00 plus some nice choccies(They have great chocs as well!) BTW dont work for them!

FreezerBird · 05/12/2021 09:51

If she does biscuits which need rolling out, you can get rolling pins with an embossed design to roll into the dough.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 05/12/2021 09:52

I think things like cake forks/slices/stands would be well received but probably not used very frequently.

That's almost what makes them a better present though because you are unlikely to buy them for yourself. I don't use mine all that often but thoroughly enjoy using them when I can.

If you want something more practical then pretty cake tins would be good. You could put bits like pretty cup cake cases and decorations in the tin too.

KatieKat88 · 05/12/2021 09:56

@FreezerBird that sounds so fun, might have to get one for DD and I as well Grin

@dottiedodah that's a good shout, I might go for a browse!

Rolling pins with rings on the end at different depths to help roll pastry/cookie dough etc out evenly (if she likes cupcakes, she might get into cookie decorating)

Really good piping bags with lots of choices/sizes of nozzles

Silicon cupcake cases that are reusable

Ceramic baking beans if she likes making tarts/pies etc.

silicon baking sheets to put on the trays

cooling racks

range of gel food colours and silver/gold powders, decorating brush set

ergonomic icing pen where you squeeze a plastic bit to get the icing out instead of the bag

... are all things that would be appreciated here

KatieKat88 · 05/12/2021 10:14

@RockingMyFiftiesNot I like the idea of nice bits for a cake tin, thank you! I agree in principle but I don't want to get something she won't really use. We're not particularly formal as a family so I can't see her thinking to get the nice cake slice out rather than just using a knife Grin

If she likes Emma Bridgewater then these tins are beautiful (I got some similar ones for my mum about 10 years ago and they’re still going strong!)

Or
www.emmabridgewater.co.uk/products/vegetable-garden-apples-set-of-3-square-cake-tins

They stack inside each other so they’re easy to store. And the different sizes are really useful.

frazzledasarock · 05/12/2021 11:49

Nordic Ware tin.

I’d never use a cake slice ordinarily but if I was given one I’d use it loads. Purely because I had one! I wouldn’t buy one for myself as I’ve got a million other things I’d prioritise. But as a gift I’d be thrilled with it! That’s just my take on a cake slice. We got MIL a cake slice and matching cake forks one Christmas. DH (then DP), was going for an egg timer and I suggested those instead. MIL uses every cake cutting opportunity to bring them out she loves them!

JustLikea · 05/12/2021 11:54

TK Maxx has lots of lovely items in that you could buy her that fit your requirements.

TokenGinger · 05/12/2021 17:06

I love Jane's Patisserie recipe book!

KatieKat88 · 08/12/2021 08:45

Thanks for some lovely ideas! I've managed to find out that she needs new scales so getting those and some smaller bits suggested here. I'll store away other ideas for her birthday Smile
